Here’s the thing. I’m guessing that most of the gun ranges within a hundred miles will take the same action. The local police force will have an odd situation. You need to stay current and qualified at shooting...but no range within a three-hour drive. If the city wanted to build their own range....it’d likely cost over $100k to do it, and at least $10k a year in various costs.

This is a month old story. IIRC, the police do have their own range, so this action doesn’t preclude them from qualifying near home.

Some years back my sleepy little town police tired of driving two miles to use our larger neighbors range. So they build a very nice indoor facility$$$. Basic lessons were offered to the taxpayers a few times and talk of open public time. Now taxpayers everywhere pay for a range and the all are under used and only by coppers who are on the clock.

Oh but they had to drive past a donut shop to get to the other range... and overtime$$$...

Around here every berg and bailiwick also has a municipal health club that is seldom used. Drive past Lifetime Fitness day or night and the lot is near full, my park district club, not at all.
