On another note, last summer Chu convened and chaired a panel of the “best minds in the world” to come up with solutions for radioactive waste disposal at Hanford. Brain-stormed for days in a conference room punctuated with tours of the facilities. Did they come up with solutions? Yeah, I guess, sort of. The blue-ribbon panel produced an official bound document with lots of impressive esoteric verbiage and fancy diagrams yet the actual recommendations were the same as any day laborer would have come up with and already did, as a matter of fact.
Yeah I was working at Hanford when we decided to turn the nuclear waste into glass logs (vitrification) then the idea was to place them in yucca mountain (was there to) but good ole Chu and Reid cut the projects out. Now nothing getting done.

Sorry, my first thought was a design that was after the BP Mercando to prevent it in the future.
