Former First Dog Barney Bush a black Scottish terrier known for chasing golf balls and taking America on video tours of the White House has passed away after a battle with lymphoma. He was 12.
Former President George W. Bush announced on Friday the passing of the little fellow, saying in a news release that after twelve and a half years of life, his body could not fight off the illness.
Barney was by my side during our eight years in the White House, said Bush, who also released Friday an oil painting he did of Barney. He never discussed politics and was always a faithful friend. Laura and I will miss our pal.

I love Blue Heelers.
The one I had, Digger was the smartest dog I’ve ever
known. Sure would like to have another one.
I don’t go looking for dogs, they seem to find me
all on their own.
Unlike the Clintons’ dog Buddy, who ended it all by jumping in front of a car.
Yeah, and he bit a reporter from Reuters on one occasion. What a great dog.
That happened to me, too. I had a Papillon-Pomeranian mix brother and sister (Wicket and Willy). When I came home from the vet without Wicket but with her collar, Willy let out that horrible howl, too! I never heard such a terrible sound and had no idea he could even make such a sound. Hope I never hear it again!
They are much smarter than we think...
RIP Barney Bush.
Thanks for the ping. Could not find this thread. Posted a thread but it got pulled. As long as there is a thread.
We had a blue tick hound once about 40 years ago. He was kind of an oaf but he loved his people. In our 45 years of marriage my wife and I have had beagles, bassets, a harrier, a schnauzer, dachshunds, a scotty, a red doberman, a wheaten terrier, a boston terrier, a boxer, eight pugs, and some of those had litters. We loved every last one of them.
Now I know why your nic is also is duffee, named after your dog. :)
I got the state wrong, it’s Alabama.
I remember the Barney cams.
Our neighbors have two Scotties.
One especially reminded me of Barney. A bit testy when it comes to his turf - but true blue to his masters and any that are his master’s friends.
It was a happy sad. I just love my dogs so much- I lost my baby beagle in June and I miss him every single day.
I will never understand why mean people and bad people outlive animals.
I’m sad to see Barney go...
But I miss Tony Snow every Sunday morning.
Awwww....Barney led a Good Dog’s Life... *snif*
I have always wanted a Dandie Dinmont!
Thanks Joe. Makes me teary eyed to read it and look at all the pictures. I know the Bush’s are hurting right now.
