Connecticut Teachers Oppose Guns in Schools
Manchester Patch ^

Posted on 02/01/2013 4:28:42 PM PST by matt04

A large majority of teachers in Connecticut don’t want educators to bring guns into schools and instead want the state to enact tougher gun laws, according to a study by the Connecticut Education Association that was released Monday.

The CEA’s poll of 400 of its members statewide also showed that teachers, by an overwhelming majority, want more state funding to improve security in schools, support broader background checks on gun buyers and support bans on assault weapons and on large-capacity gun magazines. The CEA survey comes at a time when state lawmakers are holding hearings on gun control issues in Hartford and on a day when there was particularly tense and emotional testimony on the issue, some of it from parents who lost small children in the shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14.

...

*Almost all teachers surveyed (98 percent) favor extending criminal and mental health background checks for all gun purchases.

*A large majority (88 percent) support banning the sale and possession of military-style semi-automatic assault weapons to everyone, except the police and military.

*Most of those surveyed, (87 percent) also support banning the sale and possession of high-capacity magazine clips.

*A strong majority (85 percent) opposes any proposals allowing teachers to carry guns in schools.

*Nine out of ten members (92 percent) believe the state should provide funding to local public school districts to modernize facilities to address today's school safety issues.

“85% of CEA members opposed proposals allowing teachers to carry guns in school”

Bet you thought CEA was the Connecticut Educators Association, didn’t you.

That 85% was members of the Communist Educators Association. And, now you knows the rest of the story.

;-)

Yeah, just keep on doing what you’re doing, it’s worked so well so far.

The CEA complied as directed by the party by endorsing the liberal democrat proposals.

The politics are evident. Not one of the proposals adopted make kids safer in school. Not one!

CEA should disband and individually check into a mental ward!

Notes to CT teachers:

1. Gun Free School Zones will not deter killers, but will attract them because they know everyone is disarmed.
2. In cases of mass shootings in schools, where an armed citizen was there, the body count averaged 2. Where people had to call 911 and wait for the cops to show up, the body count averaged 14.
3. In cases of mass shootings in schools, where an armed citizen was there, the deranged shooter either surrendered without a fight or killed himself.
4. Denial isn't a river in Egypt. The best union teacher is NOT bulletproof against a deranged shooter bent on murder. How much of a chance for survival will your union card buy you as you're cowering under a desk with a pair of scissors?
6. If CT teachers will not defend their students against predatory killers then hire someone who will or bring in trained volunteers with CCW as a line of defense,
7. Post your school building as a ‘hardened target’; that is, brag there are ARMED guards in place to take out gun toting crazies.

Well at least the parents and the school board in Newtown, Connecticut aren’t so foolish. The school board is seeking additional police guards, and parents spoke out at the meeting demanding armed security at the elementary schools.

This is proof positive that the vast a majority of teachers in CT (America, by abstraction) are below average in intelligence, logic skills, knowledge and character. They are a product of their own liberal educations, which isn't saying much. I remember how students became education majors in college ... they couldn't deal with real majors and decided learning how to put bulletin boards together was much easier.

I am fully expecting to get slammed by some teacher by writing the above. Maybe you are in the minority of teachers.

Don’t look at me. I am not going to defend such stupidity. I’d have a gun at work in a minute if it were legal to do so.

So I guess they will not use the DHS suggested fight back “using scissors” defense. Well that just leaves the “huddle, wimper, and piss yourself” alternate defense strategy.

I don’t doubt the results of the survey. It’s to be expected.

This is in Connecticut. A deep-blue state.

Honestly — what else do you expect?

3 cars in my local teacher's parking lot have "Wag More, Bark Less" bumper stickers. More have that stupid "Coexist" one.

The problem with wagging more and barking less is that when Adam Lanza shows up, there may be nobody who remembers how to bark.

Well that just leaves the “huddle, wimper, and piss yourself” alternate defense strategy.

I talked to a teacher / neighbor down the street yesterday and asked her if she was doing anything for the Super Bowl this weekend. She said "No, I am headed for the shooting range" (to train for her CCW). She won't go down without a fight.
