High School To Collect Students’ Hair For Mandatory Drug Testing

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (CBS St. Louis) — A Kansas City high school will begin collecting hair from students to conduct mandatory drug tests.

KSHB-TV reports that Rockhurst High School will start the random drug testing during the 2013-14 school year.

“Our point is, if we do encounter a student who has made some bad decisions with drugs or alcohol, we will be able to intervene, get the parents involved, get him help if necessary, and then help him get back on a path of better decision making, healthier choices for his life,” Rockhurst Principal Greg Harkness told KSHB-TV.

The school will collect 60 strands of hair from the student and test for several types of drugs, including marijuana and cocaine. If a student comes back with a positive drug test, that student will have 90 days to get drug-free. KSHB-TV reports the file will be destroyed for a student who tests positive after graduation and colleges and universities will never know about the failed test.

What if the records are sent to Obamacare and the government but not destroyed after students leaves the school follow graduation? One thing leads to another.

they better get the parents’ consent for those under 18 and will have a problem with consent for those over 18. I drive by this awesome school every day, but it sounds like they have been infiltrated by the bad guys.

This is a search and seizure issue and could be a big big problem for this Jesuit school.

America’s children are only allowed to use government approved mind and behaior altering drugs, prescribed by government approved physicians and sold through government licensed pharmacies.

No free-booting allowed.

It will be interesting to see, especially if more Whites end up testing positive, how it will be deemed to be a racist operation.
Not saying I agree with it because I don’t - people are basically ordered to school and don’t apply like with a job. For jobs and even some colleges, it would be fine, but not for public schools. There are more dangerous prescription drugs running through the veins of many students because the need “help” with their attitudes and other “psychoses”.

The school staff need to be drug tested first, and then test the students with the parents consent.

Sometimes I believe that the morons who push this stuff have an alter to Karl Marx, Hitler, or any other dictator in their homes...We know they have one for Obama.

Hair os a historical marker and can tell you not only what kind of drug but how long ago it was used. Could be months ago if not cut regularly!!

Yes they do. many of the most prominent people on the left like Woodrow Wilson and Margaret Sanger promoted the draconian measure of Eugenics. So anything is possible with these thugs.

First Rockhurst is a Jesuit private school so they have EVERY right to make demands of their students. Secondly most parents I know who have kids there are in favor of it. I think it’s a great message!

“... kid on the swim team is gonna shave every hair...”

By EVERY hair.. I am going to assume you meant everywhere. Imagine yanking 60 hairs from uh... south of the border? Insanity.

60 strands of hair is quiet a bit much. And I do hope the records get destroyed when the students leave the school. Nothing is private anymore. Not in this day and age.

“... they have every right to make demands of their students”.

Granted... this is a private school and they make the rules. They can make the rule that everyone shaves one eyebrow and it would have to be enforced. That being said, just because it is a private school... doesn’t make this practice right. Schools in general are becoming the parents. Instead of having sensible rules about behavior and actually teaching the subjects (thus preparing the kids for either college, the work place and society in general)... we now have schools becoming the parents. For all the parents that you know who are in favor of it... how about this. Step up, become the Mom or Dad and do your job! A teen can’t drink alcohol if they aren’t at parties or swiping it from home. Every CVS, Walgreens or Walmart has drug tests for parents if they are concerned they are involved in drugs. Once again... we are a society that pushes our responsibilities onto other entities. Why bother with your kid, where he is, who he is with and doing.. if the school can now be the big, bad parent.

On another note, have the parents considered false positives? Eat a poppy seed bagel and you will test positive. Be given a tylenol #3 by your doctor and yes... you’ll test positive. What the parents fail to understand is that these records, factual or not.. will get out. The great message that you talk about is a message that the government, school, etc.. can force you to submit 60 hairs to “save the children”. Bad message and bad parenting, IMHO.
