FILTH AND FURY: Homeless return to debase Grand Central Terminal (Bloomberg's NYC)
NY Post ^ | 2/3/13 | MICHAEL GARTLAND

In celebration of its 100th birthday, the bad old days have returned to Grand Central Terminal.

Droves of homeless people are flooding the landmark again — even as workers prepared for last week’s centennial celebration.

On a windy Wednesday, The Post spotted at least 40 hobos in search of free eats and a warm place to flop.

“It’s nauseating,” said Yvette Molina, a Tarrytown resident, who was lunching in the concourse. “It’s really disgusting. It makes you lose your appetite.”

In scenes reminiscent of the 1980s, one man picked through the garbage, rewarding himself with a half-eaten slice of pizza and a bag of nuts. A woman snored loudly as she slept, sitting upright on a concourse bench. And another man hoisted an oil can of Foster’s lager with filth-encrusted fingers.

The sights and smells — the stench of body odor easily overwhelmed the appetizing aromas from Magnolia Bakery — are enough to rattle the senses of even the most seasoned travelers and workers.

“Every day you see new homeless. Sometimes they smell — a bad smell,” said Hafiza Supti, who works at a Hudson News stand. “I have to move from one place to the other place.”

Isn’t it a damn shame we have to tolerate folks that are so less unfortunate than ourselves? /s

"And another man hoisted an oil can of Foster’s lager..."

IIRC, those check in at 25 ounces. Well, at least it wasn't a soda.

They had to throw in the “bad as the ‘80s reference”....the dreadful Pres. Reagan era, doncha know.

Where were all these disgusting bums during the past four years? Doing what bums always do, but not being mentioned by the Obamedia, of course.

Bad 80’s were the Koch and Dinkins days in NYC.

Jesus died for that smell....I have always remembered that phrase after reading a testimony about a homeless man coming into the Brooklyn Tabernacle...the pastor was overwhelmed by the smell of the young man...but in that instance..he heard the Lord speak to his heart saying...”I died for that smell...changed the pastors heart and his ministry grew.

As I recall, they had to flush out and round up all the bums so that they wouldn’t sully the view of Slick Willy’s double-wide Presidential Library and Whorehouse in Little Rock.

It’s OK for liberals to do this, why won’t Bloomturd?

Oh, yeah, he’s a Republican.

Objection your honor. That's pure speculation.

They had to throw in the “bad as the ‘80s reference”....the dreadful Pres. Reagan era, doncha know.

The NY Post is likely referencing the bad old days of the 80's when Koch and Dinkins were in charge. The days prior to Giuliani are often referred to as that in NYC.

Giuliani cleaned up the streets and swept the bums out of a lot of public places.

I'm not sure what the sympathy is for bums and hobo's here. Those people are a public nuisance and should not be allowed to fester in parks and public places. They should be constantly rounded up and either put in mental institutions, shelters, or corralled where they are not a danger to the general public.

I agree with your sentiment. Who knows what these peoples’ lives are like and why they are there. I have a heck of a lot more empathy and understanding for them than I do for those liberals who want to save the world by giving the shirts off of other peoples’ backs, while living hypocritically pampered lives themselves.

Bloomturd was elected twice as a Republican and once as an independent.

That makes him as much a Republican as Arlen Spectre.

“...we havet o tolerate folks that are so less unfortuante than ourselves/s”

True compassion for the homeless would be reopening the mental institutions that were closed by liberals in the name of compassion. Many (if not most) of these homeless have mental conditons and need a more structured/institutionalized environment, not free license to wander. Liberals Lack Logic.

Jesus didn’t die so they could wallow in slavery to sloth and sin while we pitch money at them.

There are a lot of closed prisons in America that are quite modern and with a little modification could make great housing for the homeless. You could remove the gates and put individual locks on the doors for residents. There is plenty of office space for mental health professionals to work out of etc.

However there is also the cost. I suppose some of it could be offset by residents doing much of the work that needs to be done.

They can be dangerous.

I was stopped at a light in Houston when one ran up and grabbed my arm and started trying to climb in the window of the crew cab I was driving.

I punched him and he back off then tried climbing in the back window and he was trying to bite the guy sitting in back.

One of the guys in back had to kick him to get him out of the window he was half way in the truck.

That’ nice that some woman thought more of herself than actually helping one of the hobo’s — I mean if 40 people bought an extra slice of pizza - and another 40 bought some blankets - and another 40 bought some essential bathroom supplies - it might make a difference that we leave not those that our less fortunate than ourselves...but no - I know welfare and the rest is a broken program - but it is what it is...I’ve done it here and there - offered those with help - sometimes they take it - sometimes they don’t...but it is offered...

I wonder what the “state run media” would do if a republican walked in to Grand Central and made that comment...of course - we all know exactly what would occur...but as long as it occurs on the liberal watch — nothing is said...pathetic...
