Obama and Gun Control

Difficulty in getting change in our country is an ongoing source of frustration. Particularly when we have huge problems facing us as we do today.

But the founders knew what they were doing setting up the checks and balances of our constitutional republic. The delicate arrangement we call freedom should never submit with ease to a charismatic demagogue or to an emotion filled crisis.

The current push for gun control is case and point. It is at a time like this that we should be grateful that changing our laws is hard to do.

Every normal and decent American wants to live in a country where we will never again see life lost as result of a weapon held and fired by some deranged individual.

If we knew how to prevent it from ever happening again, we all would sign off in a minute.

But we don’t know. And that is the point.

Ironically, President Obama acknowledges that we don’t know what causes the irrational violent incidents we have witnessed. It is the reason one part of the proposal he has put forth is to provide funding to the Centers for Disease Control to study the problem.

Yet, despite acknowledging lack of understanding about what drives gun violence, the president and Senator Dianne Feinstein do not hesitate to offer what they claim is a solution. They propose further controls on gun ownership that are deeply problematic in their intrusion on our freedoms and right to bear arms, guaranteed under the second amendment of our constitution.

Why are the president and Senator Feinstein so ready to compromise basic American freedoms with gun control measures, that already have a dubious record of success, to solve a problem that President Obama acknowledges we don’t understand?

To the president’s credit, in his remarks introducing his gun control initiative, he acknowledges that there may be cultural reasons that contribute to this sick, violent behavior.

But he defines the cultural parameters of what he chooses to look at in such narrow terms that you have to question his seriousness or sincerity.

The president said, “Congress should fund research into the effects that violent video games have on young minds.”

But why limit this discussion to video games?

Has the president walked by a local movie theater complex recently to see what is playing? How about the local fare on television? Or what about the content of rap music?

Can it possibly be that the disproportionate support that the Democratic Party gets from the entertainment industry - major sources of gratuitous violent media – gets them a pass from today’s discussion?

President Obama outraised Mitt Romney five to one from the movie/TV/music industry.

This business was in the top ten sources of business funding for Senator Feinstein’s re-election in 2012, with election funding sources showing these entertainment businesses didn’t provide a dime to her Republican opponent.

What about other major themes in American culture today that contribute to a sense of meaningless and lack of respect for the sacredness of life?

Of course, I am talking about our indifference to the lives of unborn children, who are murdered in our country with impunity. Somehow those who want to intrude on gun ownership can live with the violence perpetrated on the unborn and have little interest in seeing its implications on violence in other areas of our society.

Another part of this discussion is about the mentally ill. Can President Obama or Senator Feinstein give us a good definition of mental illness and seriously tell us how this can be used to control gun ownership?

We have a serious problem on our hands, which demands serious discussion.

This discussion is not taking place and the gun control initiatives that have been put forward do not begin to justify the compromise of our basic freedoms, which they would require.

If two and a half hours of movie violence doesn’t influence people, why does thrity seconds of Super Bowl advertising time cost four million bucks?

“To the president’s credit, in his remarks introducing his gun control initiative, he acknowledges that there may be cultural reasons that contribute to this sick, violent behavior.”

This is actually key to my analysis on the overall problem...

But it is not based upon the social/cultural disposition on issues of violence in this country...

Put simply, how can a nation, based upon principles of virtue, continue to reap the benefits of blessings and grace from God, maintain its leadership position in all things if it has lost its virtue to keep them???

I’m not talking about a real bible thumping religious virtue, but one, more based upon a BASIC understanding and application by its citizens (much less those we elect to represent us) of knowing and applying the reasoning behind what we as a people know to be the difference between right and wrong...

Political and social efforts, by some in this country, and around the world, are doing what they can to muddy the waters of such a basic priciple for living a good life, and that the “What’s in it for me?” crowd has taken over many aspects of our daily lives...

It may seem like I am promoting an over-simplistic approach to a huge problem, but then again, when you get right down to it, it is the simplest things that make an impact on such a publically perceived problem...

The current adminstration, and our elected caste of characters at all levels of government are only symptomatic of OUR lost virtue, or serious lack of it these days, and until WE get our act together and start putting folks into these positions, nothing will change...

But it will get worse, and at that point when we finally realize this course is not working out for this country, will we have the political, social, and most important, the virtue to correct the bleeding out of this country...

How can we expect God to bless this country, and the world if we do not have the correct focus and decision making, if we are all distracted by evil, and its dis-informational nature of its existance amoung us???

Just my opinion...

To clear up any ambiguities I saw after I posted my last:

The current adminstration, and our elected caste of characters at all levels of government are only symptomatic of OUR lost virtue, or serious lack of it these days, and until WE get our act together and start putting folks [who understand the basic principles of virtue] into these positions, nothing will change...

And...

But it will get worse, and at that point when we finally realize this course is not working out for this country, will we have the political, social, and most important, the virtue (virtuous courage) to correct the bleeding out of this country...

Sometimes I do slap the trigger of the “post” button and post before I re-read these drivles of mine...hehe

I am certain there are cultural reasons that contribute to Obama’s behavior.

He can’t make my guns “illegal” just “undocumented”.

Normally I watch some of the Super bowls, and if my favorite team is in it, I watch it all. Yesterday I didn’t watch any of it. Instead I watched Anne of Green Gables the sequel, and Anne of Green Gables the continuing story

You know, LIBERALS ARE CRAZY!
You should read excerpts from The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness, by Lyle H. Rossiter, Jr., M.D..
Watch 3 minutes 44 seconds of Youtube.com at BREAKING! Professional PROOF! Liberals Are Mentally ILL!".

We must use the Liberals Laws against them. Read Background Checks and Criminals' Sources of Guns and find the tools the liberals want to use against conservatives.
It's time we used their laws against these certifiably "mentally defective" liberals.
We know that most liberal use drugs and several have been dishonorably discharged from the military.
Some liberals are subject to certain restraining orders, or some have been convicted of a domestic violence misdemeanor.
A few liberals have even their U.S. citizenship.

Remember: Let's get them on a list and take away their guns and their security/body guards.

Every screwed-up law and initiative in this country is the result of our so-called leaders feeling the need to “do something, anything” and the silly “if it saves just one life” mantra

****Has the president walked by a local movie theater complex recently to see what is playing? How about the local fare on television? Or what about the content of rap music?****

Just like 1968 all over again. Blame movies, comic books, pulp fiction, TV shows, toy guns all for the death of Bobby Kennedy.

So pass a law that does everything you wanted except what is needed to control crime, that travesty the 1968 Gun Control Law.

***Another part of this discussion is about the mentally ill. ***

Problem solved back in 1968!

“Today we begin to disarm the criminal and the careless and the insane. All of our people who are deeply concerned in this country about law and order should hail this day.”

- Lyndon Johnson when he signed the 1968 GCA into law.

From your linked source, "keeper" data that prove Obama is lying as hard as he can about this subject:

A 1997 U.S. Justice Department survey of 14,285 state prison inmates found that among those inmates who carried a firearm during the offense for which they were sent to jail, 0.7% obtained the firearm at a gun show, 1% at a flea market, 3.8% from a pawn shop, 8.3% from a retail store, 39.2% through an illegal/street source, and 39.6% through family or friends. [All emphasis supplied.]

So if Trayvon had had a gun, he'd likely have got it from someone who could have looked like his father. <snort!>

And he is ragging on US about non-NIC-checked private firearms sales at gun shows!

The point must absolutely be driven home, that this is ALL about building a national owner-registry so Obama can go after private firearms in a confiscation campaign, to break down the Constitution and the Republic itself, without which he'll never be able to wield the kind of absolute, discretionary, unbound power that he and his politburo are after.

Yeah, sicko, violent white people. Obama will always graciously concede that a particular act of violence might have sprung from sicko white people being sicko.

It's not necessarily always the evil emanations from the gun itself whispering to the guy who goes nuts with it. It might just be, not even his inner, evil nature, but the evil inner nature of all the people who make up his sicko white society.

We have to think broadly.

Yep...

“Freddie is the Devil...Freddie is the Devil...”

I wonder if people believe white folks were the only ones that played (or used to play) records backwards???
