Don't bet on that... Who was the Chicago anti-gun writer some years ago who shot a kid who went swimming in his pool using an illegal handgun? He said he didn't feel safe, and got it from a relative in law enforcement.
Given his connections, neither he, nor the relative who gave him the illegal handgun got more than the tiniest slap on the wrist.
BTW, he continued to write columns singing the praises of "gun control" after that!

That was the highly esteemed Carl Rown Jr. of NPR, an outspoken advocate for gun control, who shot a kid with an unregistered firearm........and got off scott free.
Then there was a broad affiliated with the newly formed Brady Campaign back in the 1990's who also shot and killed a kid. I will return with that info shortly........
