Obama to seek another short-term fix to looming defense cuts

President Obama is urging another short-term fix to avoid automatic spending cuts set to hit March 1, scheduling a public statement at the White House Tuesday where he will call on Congress to come up with tens of billions of dollars in spending cuts and tax revenue.

The call is the latest effort to kick the can on a deadline set by Congress in the summer of 2011. As part of the debt-ceiling deal, Congress set in motion more than $1 trillion in defense and other spending cuts unless lawmakers found an alternative that achieved similar deficit reduction. They didn't.

Lawmakers, as part of the fiscal crisis deal at the end of 2012, delayed the automatic budget cuts for two months. But with less than a month left, Obama on Tuesday plans to urge Congress to "pass a smaller package of spending cuts and tax reforms to avoid the economically harmful consequences" of the cuts, a White House official said.

Doesnt seem likely.

The only way to cut defense in a sensible way is to have a commission come up with specific recommendations and then congress gets a yes, no vote, no changes, but since that is not happening this will.

That is how the cold war US base closings were done.

No, he’s not submitting a “short-term fix” for anything; he is quietly, slowly, but inexorably dismantling America’s defense machinery in order to make the United States indefensible against threats from his various Marxist and Moslem friends.

But, hey, as long as he continues with his program of hand-outs to his voter bloc, keeping the Democrats in power at the expense of the nation’s economy and power, and the world stability that such power enables, no one on his side of the aisle gives a rat’s *ss.

After all, when the balloon goes up, bringing an end to an extended era of relative peace, the world war which results will usher in his much-desired Marxist/Moslem revolution.
