House Republicans signal openness to some gun measures (Cantor)

The second-ranking House Republican said Tuesday that he supports improving the federal background-check system for gun buyers but stopped short of endorsing universal checks on all weapon purchases.

The comments by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) came as two GOP lawmakers from suburban districts announced plans to co-sponsor legislation to make gun trafficking a federal crime for the first time. The moves signal potential openings for bipartisan compromise on gun control, a debate so far dominated by Democrats with little said or done by Republicans.

Cantor, giving the most specific comments on gun control by a GOP congressional leader since President Obama outlined his proposals in late January, told CNN in an interview that lawmakers could consider adopting a plan implemented by Virginia after the 2007 shootings at Virginia Tech. Since the shootings, the state has linked mental-health information to law enforcement databases used to conduct background checks for gun purchases.

I originally misread the title as:
House Republicans signal openness to some gun measures (Cancer)

Somehow I think it fits better.

If this doesn’t lower their NRA ratings, then they are all in a big facade.

This story is from the neo-Nazis at the Washington Post, so I don’t give it any credibility.

Pubbie leadership folds, AGAIN.

Who’dathunk’it?

‘Moderate’ Republicans are trying so hard to become the Dem-lites. And they wonder why they continue to lose big elections.

I used to think that they didn’t know how to get their message out. Now, I am of the opinion that they are getting their message out, but the voters just are not buying it.

NYS suffers because of Buffalo and NYC. If you ban the others from having firearms and accessories, what pray tell will they use to fight of the tyrants?

Now, banning firearms and ammo sales to law enforcement etc in NYS.......all about it.

Improving federal background checks is a token compromise I could live with as long as House Republicans stand firm against the rest of this garbage, most importantly an "assault weapons" and high-cap magazine ban.

I'd prefer they stand firm against all of it but I just don't know if this is a political reality. This is DC where there are always back-room deals getting made.

Eric Cantor is a POS GOP quisling Boehner wannabe. He needs to be stopped as much as Boehner and McCarthy. Even Paul Ryan is no conservative. Its time to realize that the GOP is not our friend or saviour. Unless we all put the pressure on they will buckle under to the Dems and pass this universal background check which can only be enforced with total gun registration.

Read the link. It is all the NY State Gov at all levels along with you Serfs aka taxpayers, if the Citizens can’t own it, neither can the Gov.

In one year you can’t own a lot of guns and ammo so whats the difference now?

NY State has gun control cancer that needs to be contained and a Governor that needs to be Alinsky’d

Why exactly do we need to anything?

Does each massacre mean we have to lose more freedom?

Why do 120 Million innocent people have to be punished each time one of the massacres takes place?

Exactly these all are only set to work in one direction.

We need balance.

Each month there is no mass shooting, repeal another gun law.

I’m completely serious.

We haven’t repealed any yet this month. Where to start?

Republicans, you don't HAVE to compromise, you don't HAVE to agree on *something*, you don't HAVE to make new legislation every single day.
"NO!" is a perfectly valid answer and it's okay to have the backbone to stand by it.

NO, we will NOT have any additional gun laws.
NO, we will NOT raise taxes.
NO, we will NOT gut the military.
NO, we will NOT create another bureaucracy
NO, we will NOT let EPA and other departments gut our economy.
NO, we will NOT print another trillion dollars.

It feels good. It's liberating. Try it.

Not one more inch! If it was legal in 2012, it stays legal.

After we stop the encroachment, it will be time to start taking back some territory.
