Now my Ebay packages will take longer. Not that Ebay is the only thing that has kept the post office going this long!!
will postal workers receive a pay cut since they are working fewer days? my friend’s sister is one of the postmasters in California, and she makes big bucks... i’m talking millionS-dollar-beach house as a second home big bucks..
i think Amazon has helped...
Fine with me if they want to just stop delivering my bills and other junk mail...
The USPS has become a keynesian/welfare make-work operation.
Like the pony-express, time and technology have surpassed it.
But like any good Gov’t agency, it has huge momentum and legacy, and no politician in Washington wants to make really difficult choices. So the USPS will continue as a walking-dead zombie for years to come.
Yea that and Netflix and others like it.
I am so pleased.
I am sick and tired of walking half a mile on Saturday down to my mailbox on a nice weekend day to retrieve all the junk mail I get and to try to keep my occasional important pieces of mail from being stolen if I decide to take off for the weekend.
Saturday mail delivery is stupid. It was important back in the days when people all worked 6 days a week and every business was closed on Sunday, but these days it is completely unnecessary.
Of course this will eliminate untold thousands of part time Postal Jobs but it will also relieve the Postal Service of having to provide all these part time workers with OBAMACARE.
But nobody has a secure job in this economy so why should part time postal workers be exempt?
Wonder if Congress will actually let them make the change this time?
are you named after Lady Morgana? cool name...
Did you read the first line of your own article?
FTA: The financially struggling U.S. Postal Service announced Wednesday that it plans to stop delivering mail on Saturdays starting Aug. 1 but will continue delivering packages.
BTW, I'm fine with this development. Making the mailbox run on Saturdays to keep my mail from being stolen is a real PITA.
Postmasters likely will not take pay cuts. Carriers and clerks likely WILL. Not sure what will happen to the ones who don’t handle mail, probably not a thing.
An essential service run by Government, with the unions pressing for outrageous benefits and pensions.
In my local office NONE of the workers were even born in the USA. Surly. Rude. Broken English.
They have tons of equipment, tons of infrastructure, but no will to run it like a business, say like FedEx or UPS.
Dig a hole, then fill it mentality.
I keep hearing how the Post Office pays for itself, yet runs $16 billion dollar losses....that is how Government thinks. Not my money. Pay me for life.
Privatize it, run by a Jack Welch or FedEx, it could do very well...the issue would be many, many layoffs and a lot of teeth gnashing and CNN spouting by the Justice Bros. and other grievance groups.
I pay 95% of my bills online. Let ‘er die.
Look for the Union Label!
How are you going to keep people from stealing the packages off your front porch when you take off for the weekend?
Maybe the post service should contract with fedexpress to do all the mail. UPS already doesn’t run their routes on Saturdays except for special requests.
Ok, ask congress this. Do your offices open on Saturday? I doubt it. Saturday delivery is stupid. About 75% of my mail is junk the other is a mix of bills, subscriptions and the occasional personal piece.
I get weekends off? Who knew?
;^)
(My packages are delivered in a special lockbox. Only Al Gore can steal them. I caught him at it twoce.)
I expect the junk mail industry to lobby Congress hard to forbid this. Saturday is their #1 preferred day to have crapola arrive at your house. They’ve organized their whole industry around it.
Oh, H E L L O Newman!
