I am beginning to get that feeling!
There were EIGHT (8) GOP candidates in the MO primary.
Just like 2008 & 2012 in the GOP Pres. primaries:
“My conservative is better than your conservative.”
Then we end up w/ McCain & Romney.
Why didn’t the “real” conservatives get together & put their full support behind Brunner or Steelman?
Close to 29,000 voters supported one of the five bottom feeders (would have put Brunner or Steelman within 7900 votes of Akin).
I don’t disagree with you. He could be utterly nuts. My central point was not Akin and I am not much interested in him (his statement was uninformed and bizarre). My point is the Dem party runs utterly nuts candidates in a lot of districts and states but it neither concerns them nor stops them from getting elected. Somehow, the party and voters in MO decided to run Akin. I am curious whether he would have been more of a problem for conservatives, if he’d won, than the person who ultimately did win. And, although Akin might have been a problem candidate, there is a lot of criticism of O’Donnell and Angle and one has to compare them with the candidates who won.
Spector in Penn ended up working for the other side but the party funded his campaigns and championed his candidacy. In the end, is the solution to make sure good candidates get through primaries? That is a great goal but it hasn’t been working too well. As best I can tell, the Rove approach is no better or may make things worse. Would the Rove approach avert a Spector?
