Florida's Lake County School Board might ban all extracurricular clubs as a way to avoid having to approve the formation of a Gay-Straight Alliance. Yes, students may have to say bye-bye to their FCA, 4H, and Drama Club membership cards all because some school board members are stuck in the past.
Last year, 14-year-old Bayli Silberstein tried to start a Gay-Straight Alliance at Carver Middle School in Leesburg. Silberstein told WFTV that she was sick of her group of friends being bullied for their sexual orientation, and wanted to form the group to address the problem. But her request had been denied each and every time. So, Bayli's mother contacted the ACLU, and the group sent a letter to the school board reminding them that they've won several expensive lawsuits in the past against schools that refused to let similar groups form.
So how did the Lake County School Board react? They're thinking about just banning all clubs. From the Orlando Sentinel:
School Board members Bill Mathias, Debbie Stivender and Chairwoman Kyleen Fischer spoke in favor of a rule that would ban extra-curricular clubs in secondary schools while fellow board members Tod Howard and Rosanne Brandeburg favored banning extra-curricular clubs only in middle schools.
Fischer said the district should focus on education and that "social engineering" is not the job of the School Board. "It is not our job to socially mentor students, but to educate them," she said.
Basically, in order to comply with the federal Equal Access Act, the board is considering just cutting off everyone's access to forming groups.
Extra curricular activities are luxuries. They are not however necessary for an excellent education. HIgh academic standards in the four core subjects are.
When the LGBT agenda finds its ways into our schools the innocents are punished. The kind of societal rot they seek to legitimize is far more dangerous to our culture than not having a 4h club.
Stick to reading, writing and arithmetic and starve the ACLU of work and publicity.
This school district is showing great courage in standing for education instead of indoctrination.
Ping.
Ping.
It is incredible that in the United States today a 14 year old spiritually ill child is given such power of destruction. The adults are prematurely caving in to her “If I don’t get my way then nobody can play” attitude. I admire the board for taking a stand but why give in this early? Tell the queer club to pound sand and let the ACLU drag it to court. Then if the courts cave to immorality go ahead and cancel the other clubs. There is no need to punish the children in legitimate clubs before the battle has begun.
Amen!
some school board members are stuck in the past”
...yep. They are soooo uncool.

We had well over 2000 students in my high school. One of the kids down the street bullied one of the special ed kids. I can remember to this day Mr. Arnold the SPED teacher grabbing the bully and literally bouncing him off the wall.
Just had to do it once and the message was sent very clearly.
Good for them....do it....let them have the clubs outside the school arena...period.

Apparently the gays can’t see that they’re bullying “normal” kids to get their way.
Yep. Let people see who these homosexuals really are. It's not tolerance they're after.
They never should have been let out of the asylums in the 1980's. It was one of the biggest mistakes this country has ever made.
It's way past time to change on our minds on that "tolerance" thing. In fact, it's time we start to rethink that asylum thing.
Just by the nature of a "gay" club indicates that advocation of sexuality, ergo underage kids are being encouraged toward sexual promiscuity. Is that not a indictable. I am not a lawyer; I just play one on TV.
I can think of no organization that has caused such irreparable damage to the culture as the ACLU freaks. They're legal terrorists. When CWII comes, I predict that most of these vipers will end up dangling from lampposts.
Schools (and prisons) should do their best to ensure that no violence or bullying against those in their care. The message should not be "don't bully gays" but "don't bully". As for sexuality in schools, the schools should discourage all sexual activity. It will still occur, but sex shouldn't be normalized as a desirable choice at that age.
” she was sick of her group of friends being bullied for their sexual orientation, and wanted to form the group to address the problem.”
Yeah, when you act like a degenerate disgusting pervert overtly offending normal people, there comes a point when they are not going to take it any more. The solution: simply shut your stupid mouth and stop doing vile and perverted acts.
The only bullying going on here is by the perverts against the school.
A small minority of queers along with the ACLU is pushing their agenda in the face of normalcy.
And the result will be to shut down ALL the extracurricular groups.
