Florida School District Might Cut All School Clubs Rather Than Approve Gay-Straight Alliance
Miami New Times ^ | 02/06/2013 | By Kyle Munzenrieder

Florida's Lake County School Board might ban all extracurricular clubs as a way to avoid having to approve the formation of a Gay-Straight Alliance. Yes, students may have to say bye-bye to their FCA, 4H, and Drama Club membership cards all because some school board members are stuck in the past.

Last year, 14-year-old Bayli Silberstein tried to start a Gay-Straight Alliance at Carver Middle School in Leesburg. Silberstein told WFTV that she was sick of her group of friends being bullied for their sexual orientation, and wanted to form the group to address the problem. But her request had been denied each and every time. So, Bayli's mother contacted the ACLU, and the group sent a letter to the school board reminding them that they've won several expensive lawsuits in the past against schools that refused to let similar groups form.

So how did the Lake County School Board react? They're thinking about just banning all clubs. From the Orlando Sentinel:

School Board members Bill Mathias, Debbie Stivender and Chairwoman Kyleen Fischer spoke in favor of a rule that would ban extra-curricular clubs in secondary schools while fellow board members Tod Howard and Rosanne Brandeburg favored banning extra-curricular clubs only in middle schools.

Fischer said the district should focus on education and that "social engineering" is not the job of the School Board. "It is not our job to socially mentor students, but to educate them," she said.

Basically, in order to comply with the federal Equal Access Act, the board is considering just cutting off everyone's access to forming groups.

Children sometimes behave badly, including participating in mild bullying. It should be discouraged, but kids generally learn to deal with most of it. Just part of growing up.

As to the “gay” part of this problem, I don’t think adolescents should be categorized as “gay” at this stage of their sexual development. We seem to be pushing kids at an age when they are confused about practically everything.

I can think of no organization that has caused such irreparable damage to the culture as the ACLU freaks. They're legal terrorists. When CWII comes, I predict that most of these vipers will end up dangling from lampposts.

Years ago a group of Conservative students wanted to form a Rush Limbaugh club on a college campus. The ACLU had top drag the school into court to get the students permission to do so. It must have killed them to do so.

The only bullying going on here is by the perverts against the school.

I disagree. My experience was that just about everyone got bullied at least a little just about every year. Those who handled it well were left alone after the first try, while those who reward the bully with a nice reward or even an entertaining show were picked on mercilessly. I disapprove of the bullying whether it is over gay, fat, glasses, or any other excuse.

I do agree that the perverts are major bullies in this case. The lesson from all bullying is never to give a bully what he/she/it (for the GLBTQ undecideds) wants. We have to make sure that the perverts do not get sympathy and positive attention, that they do get shunned by decent people, and that they never again want to provoke a fight over special treatment.

I think a lot of the “bullying” is when a perv hits on someone and gets a violent reaction. A boy grabs another boys behind or package and he gonna get the NY city beat down.

Bullying is an excuse used by homo crowd so that they can get into the school and spread their pervisions.

So now her classmates know that it's Bayli's fault that all the activities were cancelled. I suspect little Bayli and her mom will be in for an interesting school year.

Basically, in order to comply with the federal Equal Access Act, ...

And there's major constitutonal problems with the federal Equal Access Act. Not only have the states never delegated to Congress the specific power to regulate public schools, but Justice John Marshall had officially taken the Founding States' division of federal and state powers a major step forward by officially clarifying the following. Justice Marshall had clarified in general that Congress is prohibited from laying taxes in the name of state power issues, issues wihch Congress cannot justify under the Constitution's Section 8 of Article I, public schooling being an example.

"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." --Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

In other words, corrupt, gay agenda-pushing Congress is wrongly threating the loss of federal funds concerning an issue which Congress has no constitutional authority to lay taxes for in the first place.

Finally, I find it ironic that the EAA was lobbied for by religious groups who evidently didn't know about Congress's limited powers to lay taxes.

Correct. Not all bullying involves picking on weak nerdy kids.

Effective bullying can be used as a deterrent to teach little faggots to stop their destructive behavior before they grow up to be sick old perverts.

typical , it takes one idiot to ruin it for all th eothers.
Because this girl and her pathetic mother wanted this , then all the groups will lose out.

As for the article, what th ehell is school board stuck in the past, maybe just maybe they think that the group of a couple of boys and girls who have mental problems don;t need to bring into the school groups based on sex and yes schools deal with bullying so this girl is overreating as usual like the lunatic left and homosexuals do.

School is about education, not about a couple of kids who have mental problems and look for attention and as for this idiot girl and her idiot mother , then if they though bullying was a big problem then go to the teachers etc.

There is nothing about her mentioning bullying to the school and going through the channels

great point, homosexuals and their supporters spout tolerance, coexist etc and yet they are the biggest bullies in the country.

This girl and her couple of pals have some mental issues and instead of being a good parent the other then gets in touch with the ACLU.

Hopefully the school board stands it;s ground and lets the real bullies get an education not just in math etc but they can;t go around bullying people and school is for education not having groups based on sex

should be easy but alas we live in very weird times.

This girl needs to understand that she can;t have her own way all the time but it seems her mother is just as bad.

Homosexuals always use bullying as an sympathy excuse.

My old high school recently had a boy cheerleader who dressed in the girls uniform. Like the other cheerleaders he would “flirt” with the football team which was not reciprocated. He called this “bullying”.
