CWII Ping! This one is a bullseye hit on the CWII Ping List.

Hat tip to the ever vigilant DuncanWaring!

About the CWII Ping List

The CWII Ping List is short for Civil War II. It is NOT a list of people advocating another Civil War in America. It is a list of people who are interested in the parallels between the Civil War (or War Between the States, if you prefer) and our current situation, or more generally are noting the references to a 'coming Civil War' that are made in the press.

FR rules do not permit advocating for the overthrow of the Republic, and I am not aware of anyone doing so on the list. Still many do see that as the political climate worsens we may be heading in a direction that makes such a conflict all but inevitable, particularly if other avenues for resolving our differences are taken away. Such as widespread vote fraud by leftists making elections meaningless, or a small cadre of judges over-ruling all attempts to end destructive policies over the clear will of the people.

Please Freep Mail me to get on the list.

“Kinda raises the question, who is the US? The civilians or the government?”

They believe it is the government. All of us could die but as along as the government exists the US exists. Kinda explains why they make “continuity of government” bunkers for them but no one else.

We don’t want to over throw the Republic. We want to over throw the Socialist Democracy that has usurped its place.

Pretty overwrought. Obama might want to create some version of the Western European welfare state, but it's doubtful that he'd want to bring full-on Leninism to the US. The confusion between two versions of "socialism" or "Marxism" fuels a lot of feverish speculation, as does Obama's early radicalism.

People are always quick to see politicians on their own side as weak, wishy-washy creatures devoid of willpower or resolve, and those on the other side as superhumanly cunning and devoted to achieving some monstrous goal.

That's rarely the case in countries with long-established democratic and constitutional traditions. What politicians do may wreck the country, but that's not usually their goal, and whatever good or ill they achieve they rarely want to set themselves up as dictators for life.

That's not the way their minds have been shaped by years on politics. It's largely been a matter of achieving more limited goals within the existing system.

Fomenting civil war or revolution or establishing a dictatorship isn't worth all the aggravation and effort, especially since former presidents can live such cushy and untroubled lives and dictators have to watch their back every minute of every day.

We went through all this with Clinton and Bush, but I suppose all the fevered speculation about evil plots won't end anytime soon. I guess that to care at all about politics it helps to believe that the loss of everything is a real and close possibility.

I, personally, do not believe that he is leaving office when his term expires. Time will tell.

If anything it should be called Revolutionary War II not Civil War!An inside military takeover would solve a lot of messy problems.

Couldn't disagree with you more. There is a reason the Founders made the civilian, elected President the Commander-in-Chief, and that is because they recognized the danger of an independent military. If we do this Revolution II thing, it has to be led by the civilian population. The military can join us, but if we were to allow the military to take full control, we risk becoming a dictatorship every bit as much as we risk under communists like Obama. I think most military guys (of honor) would agree with me.

There are almost none here I would want to lead me when the time comes, and only a handful I’d want by my side.

There are plenty of good men and women on this site, including plenty of men capable of leading and conducting any kind of resistance you want. Just like most other sites, we have a very vocal minority that descends on darn near every thread and wreaks havoc, and some act like pompous a-holes, but the vast majority of members here are exactly the kind of people you'd depend on in a crisis. Think of it this way: the most dangerous and effective people we have on this site are probably among the ones who bluster the least. The ones who will actually be DOING, when the time comes, are not the same ones who are thumping their chests online, for the most part.

They just may see a Trident missile aimed at their own if they keep violating the Constitution and committing treasonous acts against The People...

You know, the prospect of watching Washington DC dissolve in a bath of nuclear fire is becoming more appealing by the day.

You know in the past we’d be targeted for saying something like that but nowadays so many feel that way it’s the majority. It would take them so long to go after everyone with that sentiment it would take at least 50 years...lol

He’s the traitor, not us.

Your points are well taken, and I would probably agree with your sentiments if those who are quiet and thoughtful were less quiet here. Perhaps I should have phrased it this way:

“There are almost none of the frequent and vocal posters here that I would want . . .. “

Does anyone remember the 1990’s and people like Linda Thompson and Bo Gritz?

I have my reasons for asking.

It is a great mistake to suppose that the paper we are to propose will govern the United States. It is the men whom it will bring into the Government and interest in maintaining it that is to govern them. The paper will only mark out the mode and the form. Men are the substance and must do the business. ~ John Francis Mercer

The Founders knew...men would corrupt what they had found.

A war in the US, especially a civil war, would theoretically give dear leader just about everything he wants:

An excuse to “temporarily postpone elections”, enact martial law/emergency powers, nationalize the private sector, impose rationing, suppress free speech, etc. Isn’t that how all dictatorships come to power?

So yes, it would not surprise me in the slightest if he was hoping for such a thing...but I dare say he doesn’t realize how much he’d be biting off.

With that in mind, Obama will simply announce he's running for a third team with the RATS and the media firmly supporting him. Then it will be up to someone on our side to challenge the constitutionality of what he's doing, but again, while that goes through the courts, Obama's reelection effort will be going full speed ahead.

Were he to do that the Democratic Party would assume the status of the Hell's Angels, just a gang of thugs about whom the presumption can be made that they are guilty until proven innocence by virtue of membership in the Party.
