Obama’s State of the Union to add details to far-reaching agenda
The Hill ^

President Obama will map out the contours of his second-term agenda when he speaks to the nation in his State of the Union address on Tuesday night. In a speech meant to build on his second inaugural address — which was directed at the Democratic base and served as a bookend of sorts to his reelection campaign— Obama will put details on the far-reaching government agenda he hopes will become part of his legacy.

The economy will remain Topic A, and Obama’s speech is expected to warn of the danger automatic spending cuts known as the sequester pose to a slowly improving economy. At the same time, Obama will give due weight to other priorities such as immigration and gun control. Obama has newfound freedom to be more combative, not to mention left-leaning, because he doesn’t face reelection, but he simultaneously needs to define goals that are capable of attracting majority support.

Obama’s State of the Union to add details to far-reaching agenda

Oh; I doubt it.

He'll say whatever he thinks will placate the chattering class; and then go on about his business.

His far left extreme agenda is not what America wants.

Then 'America' should have voted differently!

Never in our history has there been so many spineless, gutless, gonadless human waste gathered in one group, in my opinion!

Of course, the supine GOP will do neither. But as a dramatic statement, retiring from the chamber can’t be beaten.

The Democrats would of course act like Democrats in response, and receive the full support of the equally supine national media. It would be the time to make the ultimate political statement in response. I’d say something like this:

“The State of the Union is broken — not simply by failed policy but by the deliberate efforts of the far left wing, which has for years been waiting for just this chance to destroy the world’s greatest remaining bastion of freedom. There is still time to stop these people but it needs to be said: the dilapidated State of our Union is not an accident. It is the product of a long-held plan from the radical left, of which the current administration and the national media are both willing tools.”

Too bad there isn’t the political will out there to try either of the options we’ve discussed.

“Details...”

Unicorn crossing signs: that’s all I can think of... well, the Leprechauns aren’t unionized...

No need to expend much hot air: he could merely say, “I plan to follow in the footsteps of my hero, Lenin,” and that would suffice.

Too bad you aren’t writing that speech, wordsmith. :)

It would be powerful and to the point and honest.

But...politicians don’t seem to like that. Unfortunately...

If it’s so dangerous why doesn’t someone ask the facist why he proposed it in the first place and signed it into law?

The GOP should just chant, “YOU LIE”.

Nope, not at all.

That's exactly what the guy wants. He's proven himself to be pretty comfortable dealing with head-on confrontation from the Republican Party, which he loathes.

Better approach would be laughter.

Turn Saul Alinsky back on the guy and openly mock and ridicule him with derisive laughter whenever he makes what he thinks is a profound Liberal/Progressive policy statement.

Of course, even funnier would be for every Republican to show up at the State of the Union with a red Solo cup, and whenever he proposes bigger, more intrusive and more expensive government yell "DRINK!" and act like they're taking a swig.

I don’t think we have much more to lose. We need to stand and fight.
