I would not want to see his family life if this is considered a good family. He is a complete idiot....if it was just the video that would be different but making calls to the school stating a bomb threat well that is completely different and jail is appropriate and since I am not being charitable life on the registry is fine.
This was a very informed jury and he deserves every moment in jail!

If common sense could not be used to begin with; a law will only make things worse as the language is twisted and skewed to suit the needs of the moment, and as such should be killed immediately.

The implied threat is contempt of court, with whatever jail time or fine hizzoner sees fit to apply.
We call this FELONY EXTORTION
This guy is a dumb jackass, but I wouldn’t put this on the sex offenders list for life. I personally think this guy needs 1000 hours of community service for the bomb threat with the change of expungement. I’m uneasy about the 20 and 16 age difference, but that’s not necessarily evil and the parents didn’t seem to object. If he transferred the video to a 3rd party - then I’d have a much different opinion.
Because murders never repeat..or rapists?
Sorry, but you could very well worry about repeat offenses for anybody in prison.

The guys in black robes, surrounded by armed and armored bailiffs, the ones who can decide what is and what isn't contempt, and who can confine anyone for as long as they please (subject to a few limits) call it maintaining courtroom discipline, jury instruction or whatever they damn well please.

The whole “let’s record IT for the internet” is a relatively new event that still escapes me.
Maybe I should reread the article,but it doesn’t look as if he had a jury trial. His lawyer probably worked a plea, and the obviously perplexed judge had no choice but to follow the sentencing guidelines. Sorry story all around. Incredibly stupid, both as to taping the sex and calling the bomb threat to his girlfriend’s school. Now he pays the rest of his life.

They probably wanted to nail him hard for the bomb threat.
He is likely to face charges in South Carolina. If done right, he may face life in prison due to SC’s three strikes law.
