PHOENIX -
Opponents of gun control rallied at the State Capitol Friday morning for "Second Amendment Appreciation Day," and came heavily-armed.
They said they were trying to send a message to state leaders and even to the President -- the message being, "keep your hands off my guns."
About 100 people gathered for what they called a peaceful protest. It's part of a nationwide event, rallying in support of their second amendment right to bear arms.
They said they wanted state leaders to hear that they don't want any changes to existing gun control laws, adding that they fear the government is going to make it more difficult for people to obtain firearms and ammunition in the wake of several mass shootings around the country.
"That's clearly the purpose here, keep making it harder and harder for people to own guns or use guns or shoot guns or keep them for self-defense -- and you reduce the number of gun owners," said Dean Weingarten.
Debbra Cochran added, "Once they get our guns, they'll get all of our rights. That's what I think. And I am not going to comply -- I will not comply."
"To stand up for my second amendment rights. They have no right to take away our freedom and our guns," said Lynette Huston, of Black Canyon City. "They need to check into the mental health system, not law-abiding citizens, we're not the ones breaking the law."
Jayne Ries is from Quartzite and calls herself a "Grandma for guns." She grew up in a family of gun owners, and for her, it's about keeping her family safe.
"For protection. We need our guns," said Ries. "People kill people with cars and knives, guns aren't necessarily going to stop that at all."
Some in the crowd told FOX 10 they are also stockpiling ammunition because it is becoming hard to find.
As far as having so many guns in front of the state capitol, one man said, "It's just a group of people taking their guns out for a walk."
It was a peaceful demonstration -- there were no counter-protestors.
is AZ gonna hold a ‘obamacare appreciation day’ too’?
That was sarcasm, right?
100 people?! O’s anti-gun crowd’s will gather in the 1000s. Folks we’re going to have to get off our cans a lot better than that. It could be thought that we’re working folks not collecting benefits and sitting on our cans and that the “claimants” have time to attend those events but if I hear about a pro-gun rally I’ll attend it.
I saw the video. Actually it was a pretty good report. Not bad.
“100 people?! Os anti-gun crowds will gather in the 1000s.”
Not in Arizona, they won’t. There was not a single anti-rights person to counter protest. Not one.
We outnumber them by five to one, probably more. This was a weekday, midday. A very hard time to get people to protest, and we still got a hundred.
Yes sarcasm- due to the fact that Jan Brewer sold her soul by acceptign obamacare and not standign with htose states that refuse to accept it- She was the last person I expected to cave- but I guess I didn’t know her very well- She suere fooled me
Why sit around and wait for someone to organize a 2A rally close to you?
Get out there an organize one in the closest big city.
You complain about 100 people showing up. Someone organized that rally and put a lot of effort into it.
Good job marktwain, fantastic rally!
Got some pretty good coverage by the local station, that will reach a lot of people.
At a rally such as this, it's been calculated that for every person that shows up, there are another 100 who couldn't make it.
LOL, no, I'll bet there weren't, and I do not think that was an accident.
AS USUAL, Arizona Senators and Representatives and Governor make no mention to such a gun right rally therefor those of us just sit here and can only say “DUH” after the fact.
I would have shown up and so would thousands more if someone had said something.
The next rally will be at the Capitol on 23 February. I will be out of state, so I cannot make it.
Spread the news. This rally was virtually spontaneous. No leaders, no organization, no invited speakers.
Here is a first hand account:

February 23 is a National Day of Resistance with rallies being organized in 75+ (and counting) cities. As you all know, for decades, politicians on both sides of the aisle have been chipping away at the Constitution and, especially, the Second Amendment. It is time to "push back" (yet again!) and remind Washington that the American people do not want further gun controls! Please visit the website, find a rally near you (or sign up to help organize or even organize a rally in your town or city, if none is listed.)"What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers...
Will Governor Cuomo Hear from the Concerned "Vocal Minority?" (Pro gun rally Albany NY)
Will Governor Cuomo Hear from the Concerned "Vocal Minority?" Albany, NY- Thousands of concerned New Yorkers from around the state will gather on the West side of the NYS Capitol in Albany on Tuesday, February 12th from 11-2 to voice their concerns over the SAFE Act and support the Second Amendment. This event is being sponsored by many pro-Second Amendment Groups, including turn Albany Upside Down, the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association (NYSRPA), and S.C.O.P.E. Many pro-Second Amendment supporters were offended to hear their concerns marginalized by Governor Cuomo as "a very vocal minority." Organizers are encouraging Governor...
The one in New York is a couple of days from now, Tuesday the twelfth.
According to my wife, who is in the healthcare field, there aren’t very many patients who are fond of Obamacare.
I’m the blonde in the video. There is a rally 2/23.

scroll down to the bottom of the page for AZ contacts.
AZ is still planning a venue.
If you scroll to the bottom of the page there is a state page link. It gives contacts for AZ. They are still working on a venue. It will be the biggest one I think yet.
I have been to 2 so far. The one here is the smaller. The first one was about 800-1000 people. It was so full that we didn’t fit on the sidewalk. We need numbers for them to listen.
AZ did have protests regarding Obamacare before it became law. Obamacare sucks.
Cool, everyone that spoke did very well (you included!) short and to the point.
OK, you are the blond, I also saw a redhead.
