Needed: A Conservative Counter-Culture
The Jewish Press ^ | February 10, 2013 | Daniel Greenfield

The entertainment industry is too big and powerful, but that will change. What will not change is that the nation is losing its values.

The last election has brought on essays bemoaning the conservative disconnect from popular culture and the need to somehow reconnect with it. The means of this reconnection are hardly ever stated, though there is the implication that conservatives would need to “evolve” on certain social issues in the hopes that its economic viewpoint will be taken seriously by a population whose social way of life doom it to be dependent on government support.

As plans go, this one is nearly as clever as trying to promote weight loss by opening a cake shop. And it ignores the obvious reality that the only way that conservatives will be allowed to participate in popular culture is as the butt of a joke. Whether it’s Sarah Palin’s appearance on Saturday Night Live or Rush Limbaugh’s Family Guy appearance, trying to be a good sport about liberal culture is the strategy of a good loser playing into the prepared stereotype, rather than destroying it.

The culture is polarized. That means there is no place for conservatives in it except by playing the villain’s part, and the villain’s part, whether played with good humor or reluctantly, is not the winning part. But it’s also a mistake to call it the culture, when what we really mean is the culture created and perpetuated by a small number of corporations, their affiliated creatives and their affiliated press.

Take Girls, an HBO series that is one part nepotism and nine parts artificially generated corporate trend, that was recently the subject of several essays insisting that we take it seriously because it is “the culture”...

WOW...not the culture of the 1970’s I recall...

The communist and hippies were running rampant... all the dawning of the age stuff...

Maybe I misunderstand what you are trying to say.

We need a conservative counter culture.

Nope, it won’t happen until we regain the voting rights of our dead relatives like the democrats do. Coupled with voting multiple times in all ajoining states, and loading conservatives volunteers in the polling places.

Sorry, but you are wrong with a capital R. Counterculture did not come from the mass on the bottom- it came from an elite at the top. I was there.

We need a conservative counter culture.

It exists.

I watch my grandchildren rebelling against the self-destructive policies of their parents who rebelled against traditional values. (You can teach them, but they make their own decisions from there).

The result is that one of my grandchildren will be the executor of my estate, not one of my children.

There is hope, and it springs from those who have seen liberalism fail miserably.

In my opinion, conservatism, in its conventional sense is NOT a culture, or by its very nature to be a haven for activism...

It is supposed to be more of a natural state, or mindset, for lack of any better terms...

Sure, we have grassroots organizations, (i.e.: Tea Party etc etc etc)...But that is still a fragmented and regional specific (to regional issues, for the most part) and they promote regional candidates to national, state and local offices...I’m not saying that is a bad thing, it is a great thing...And it is one that is being rejected by both sides of the political spectrum...

What a poor decision on the part of both parties in this country...

Not bad. Shows can be "conservative" without being labeled as such. If they are labeled "conservative," they're marginalized and discounted. If they aren't, people watch them without explicitly picking up on the conservative message.

Make good shows, maybe something will get through. But I suspect a "conservative counter-culture" would simply convince liberals that conservatism is established and secure and deserves to be taken off some pedestal, and a lot of viewers will pick up on that and follow the trend.

On Girls: "Arts and culture" reporting is about trends and sensations and novelties. Happy, hard-working people don't make much of an impression in the arts pages, which will always be about people trying to attract attention by doing something new or outrageous or daring or disgusting.

INANITY!.... splitting will not do a damn bit of good...it never has, and it never will...

however, those who espouse such nonsense surely are making a good wage from the democrat party, because the democrat party would love nothing more than to divide us more... MANY of the Democrats are good and faithful Christians and they have no apparent qualm about denying the rights of other Christians just because they belong to another political party. At least most on the "Right" do not criticize the left's Christians, we just criticize the left. It is said that we say they are just wrong while they (the left) say we are sick, insane and need to be eliminated, treated with drugs, jailed or just outright eliminated from society.

this is it....its WE against THEM...period....Who are "WE" and who are "THEM"?

some of you are going to have to suck it up and decide if you are one of THEM or one us US....there is no in between....I (and my ilk) are on the side of fact and not on swayed by emotional knee jerk reactions. We deal with fact and not group think reactions. We accept people for what they do and not what others "Say" certain people do and think.

I am and have been prepared for a LONG time now to fight the battle between the bigoted left and defend any & all free thinking people who ONLY want to be free to think and believe what they choose.

(PPS) I quite frequently attend various denominations of Christian churches. I learn a lot about myself but there are A LOT OF UNANSWERED, NEVER spoken subjects that most churches never discuss. Most just "Gulp" and totally shun the subject.

I meet open minded thoughtful people and I meet many who just don't want to think beyond what their particular church mentions during services.

Sadly, it’s not your hairs that I want to excite.

My idea is to undermine the false belief among the zombies.

My tactic is to use popular music, layered on the public speech of our current leadership.

With the music and words running simultaneously. I contend the effect will be a greater appreciation of the music than the words. Simply because the music has more familiarity.

I also contend, with the right music, the words of the speaker, not only get relegated to the background, but become the target of ridicule.

With some ideas from another Freeper, I have reconstructed this with a different tune.

In the meantime I am trying to produce this “final product” myself.

Give this a run and let me know what you think.

PLAY THEM AT THE SAME TIME.

Start the Inauguration at 6:30 or so. I need to work on the timing.
