That last time it was done voluntarily was by Celestine V in 1294; Gregory XII stepped down under political pressure in 1415. Those are widely believed to be a forgery. Malachy lived in the 1100s. The prophecies were “discovered” in the 1500s. Their accuracy about popes prior to the 1500s is often pretty good. After the 1500s, they get more and more vague and off the mark.

They are believed to have been created for the political times of the 1500s.

I am not “not all at worried”, although am familiar with that information. Sometimes claims of hoaxes are themselves false. One can debate whether or not some of the more recent descriptions were “hits”, but I would not get too complacent about this.

Oh, I agree about not getting complacent, but not due to Malachy. It’s in the Bible that we don’t know the day or the hour of the Master’s return, so we just better live like we’re ready any time.

Thanks for that link. That sounds better. I guess “Glory of the Olive” refers to Pope Benedict, but that doesn’t seem to make any sense.

“Peter the Roman” should be the next Pope. I guess “prophetic” tomes like Nostradamus were the product of that age.

Some priests are monks who wear habits, complete with rosaries attached to their waists. He could have been referring to this.
