United States Army Threatened With Lawsuit Over Chaplain’s Prayer to ‘Heavenly Father’

Washington, D.C. – The United States Army is being threatened with a lawsuit after a chaplain allegedly prayed to the Heavenly Father during an event at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, which offended an atheist soldier in attendance.

The Huffington Post reports that Staff Sergeant Victoria Gettman is unpleased with the response that she has received from her superiors in regard to complaints that she had lodged over the prayer, which was delivered last September. Gettman and a number of other soldiers were attending a mandatory suicide prevention session, which concluded with a prayer. The prayer itself was voluntary as soldiers were not required to participate.

Gettman states that she became offended because she believed it was obvious that the chaplain was delivering a Christian prayer.

“The chaplain said we have to have something bigger than ourselves. We need, and he stresses need, to have something divine in our life,” she said. “The entire theater was [then] forced into a mass Christian prayer. … I heard him refer to his ‘Heavenly Father’ and ‘Lord.’”

So, one upset jackass can deprive all religious people of hearing a religious prayer. Too bad the little scumbag is going to be coddled and get her tears wiped while the vast majority of the people that are being offended by her can all go to hell, huh?

And then the same idiots wonder why all the “gun violence” is occurring. Without God, we are nothing but animals. Animals kill one another all of the time. It’s the law of the jungle.

Staff Sergeant Victoria Gettman . . . became offended because she believed it was obvious that the chaplain was delivering a Christian prayer.

If she's too delicate to listen to a prayer that mentions "Our Heavenly Father", then she is far too delicate to serve in our military. I'm not sure what career would fit her, beyond permanent social security disability.

What does she care? As far as she is concerned the Chaplain was praying to no one.

Why doesn’t the military find out just who are the atheists and put them in their own units . . . away from everyone else. Then the little pansies won’t be offended.

one guy has veto power over prayer and Christian speech, but 99% of them wouldn’t be able to change anything about gays and stuff

we made it easier for idiots to get into the miltiary, hell look at the latest marine AD which shows a young black guy walking then into uniform and then helping out wiht aid in another country,

contrast this to the Brit Royal marines which even state don;t bother applying if you can;t handle this.

Here is the AD and I might add their marines don;t even let women in

their rules of engagement, is to shoot if they are the enemy or they think they are , American marines are wait to be shot at then return fire.

We have to overturn all of this, cross dressing, whack jobs, feces pokers giving secrets away which I noticed the media dropped once they found out he was a feces poker, no lawsuits in the miltiary etc

An atheist goes to a religious event and is OFFENDED by the mention of God? I say we take him out back and beat the crap out of him because WE are offended by him.

I was taking with a Muslim once trying to get a handle on what they believe. I asked if a Muslim could pray the Lord’s Prayer. It doesn’t say anything about Jesus.

He said absolutely not. A Muslim would never be so disrespectful of Allah as to presume to call Him “Father”.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/08/army-religious-freedom-lawsuit_n_2646086.html?utm_hp_ref=politics ~ essentially same story. This Gettman gal knew it was voluntary but she claims she was concerned over the fact the Chaplain didn’t invite the Jews and Buddhists to ‘git oud duh way’ ~ so I don’t think she wins any lawsuits but some Christian might well be able to lay one on her for harrassing their free exercise o their own religious beliefs.

You better believe that this scumbag will try something to humiliate this Chaplain. I'd court-marshall her for something and stick her sorry ass in the brig. Just isolate these fools into their own units and let them sulk somewhere else.
