The Resilient Conservative Majority (If Conservatives Outnumber Liberals, Why Do the Libs Succeed?)
American Thinker ^ | 02/13/2013 | Bruce Walker

Gallup had a poll recentlypublished a poll which shows that at the end of 2012, self-identified conservatives still outnumbered liberals in every state of the nation except for two -- Rhode Island has fewer conservatives (27.8%) than liberals (28.3% liberal), as does Massachusetts (28.3% to 30.5%). Gallup curiously does not play up the ideological gap. Instead, the February 1, 2013 article title given by Gallup was "Alabama, North Dakota, Wyoming Most Conservative States. Americans slightly less conservative, slightly more liberal[.]"

This apparent interest in hiding the conservative advantage in America is pervasive; the Gallup Polls invariably have titles to news stories which would cause no one to get curious. The Gallup Poll data twelve months earlier showed the same dramatic conservative advantage. So did the February 2011 Gallup Poll, entitled "Mississppi rates as Most Conservative US State." The August 2010 Gallup Poll tells us that "Wyoming, Mississippi, Utah rank as Most Conservative States." The February 2010 Gallup Poll reads, "Ideology: Three Deep South States Most Conservative." Gallup in August 2009 featured the headline "Political Ideology: 'Conservative' Label Prevails in South[.]"

A closer look at Gallup's polling results shows something startling. In February 2012, Gallup reported that conservatives outnumbered liberals in every state but Massachusetts. In February 2011, Gallup polling results showed that conservatives outnumbered liberals in every single state. The August 2010 results showed that conservatives outnumber liberals in every state but Rhode Island. In August 2009, Gallup polls showed that conservatives outnumbered liberals in every single state. The February 2009 poll showed conservatives outnumbering liberals in every state of the union.

The Battleground Poll, perhaps the most respected bipartisan poll, has also consistently shown that conservatives dramatically outnumber liberals in America.

NOTE:

Even in December 2012, after Obama had won re-election, Question D3 of that poll showed Americans identifying themselves thus: "Very Conservative" (20%), "Somewhat Conservative" (39%), "Moderate" (2%), "Somewhat Liberal" (24%), "Very Liberal" (12%), and "Unsure" (3%).

So, why don't conservative politicians win?

Because the dead don’t participate in polls.

Talk to the secretly liberal wives and sweeties who would never tell their conservative husbands that they voted for the other guy....”Oh it would just make him so upset...”!

Government bennies and college money is just too tempting for otherwise morally conservative women who see such things as benefitting their families and children. It’s a “nesting instinct”...”guys just wouldn’t understand”....!

close to 100% of the media is controlled by the leftists

conservatives don’t win because people do not ever hear what the issues and positions actually are.

Terrible article.

The real reason is that many of the self-identified “conservatives” would be savaged as RINOs if they posted on FR.

Because the Dems have the State run Media on their side and both of them cheat. 1 + 1 = 2.

Actually, they do win quite a bit. We lost the presidency because we had a poor candidate and many conservatives sat out the election. But we retained control of the House and hold a substantial majority of state offices (gubernatorial and legislatures) across the nation.

Even amidst the carnage and disaster of the last election, some good Senators were elected -- like Ted Cruz (and easily).

Well the liberal control many of the important offices in the country. Democrats were busy taking over local governments and implementing progressive agendas- while Republicans and Conservatives were being lazy, and going along to get along.

Also- voter fraud.

Also a Chicago Democratic vote making machine.

Also- the GOP elite, which is just as corrupt, has led people into the need to be “cool and hip” and vote for democrats.

” - - - Why, then, do liberals have so much political success? - - - “

Because the GOP Elites endorse the most left-wing registered Republican that wants to lose to a Counterculture Democrat/Socialist.

Karl “Turd Blossom” Rove is already drumming up support to pay the next left-wing Republican Candidate to lose, lose, lose as a fake “Conservative.”

BTW, does anyone know what, if anything, Rove has EVER tried to actually CONSERVE? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?????????????????

RE: Actually, they do win quite a bit.

Well, let me count the loses ...

Connie Mack and Allen West in Florida.

Mia Love in Utah.

Richard Murdock in Indiana.

Michelle Bachmann just won by the skin of her teeth.

It’s looking like most conservatives stayed home in 2012.

“close to 100% of the media is controlled by the leftists”

Absolutely correct. When you control the message, you control a significant portion of the vote. It doesn’t even have to be a big percentage. If 3% of voters switch their vote, a 51 - 48% ‘drubbing’ becomes a 51 - 48% win. If we won by that margin we’d be talking about how liberalism was rejected. Instead, we are talking about how the nation is dead. It’s not, at least not yet, and we can put this back together.

The democrat secret is putting ‘pieces’ together. A certain percentage of women, a certain percentage of the youth vote, a certain percentage of the casual voters who get their news from MSM outlets and who don’t research the issues, a certain percentage of the elderly that have been scared about the loss of Medicare etc.. Add those to the loyal minority vote, the union vote, and the public employee vote, and you have a winning coalition. This is what they depend on, which is why they fight so hard to discredit anyone who might pull significantly from any of their key demographics (e.g. any women candidate, and any minority candidate).

The bottom line is that they are very vulnerable, but the strategy has to be correct, and it has to be aggressive. We need to find ways to split their coalition, and make them play defense.

The problem is that there is no conservative TV media in this country at all. There never will be either.

Even if someone spent a billion dollars to start a cable network, none of the cable and satellite companies would withstand the leftist onslaught to keep them off the air.

If Glenn Beck or someone had bought Current-TV, sure the ratings might have shot through the roof, but the cable and satellite companies would probably drop it, advertisers would be afraid to touch it.

Rush said yesterday that these things are cyclical and there will be a Conservative comeback. But, quote,....”it may not be in my lifetime”.

It’s as close to telling us time to PANIC as I’ve heard him come.

Variety of reasons..

- Left gets 110%+ turnout in districts that are 60%+ leftist
- Media will always ignore leftist scandals/corruption
- Left will bully the weak and uninformed with fear or guilt
- Leftists will go the extra mile and protest in your face to get attention, conservatives do not
- Left will accept foreign money to finance campaigns
- Many “conservatives” in polls are of the fiscal conservative/social liberal type, so they split their support
- Conservatives have no voice in national politics, so they stay home
- Republicans see conservatives as the reason for their losses
- Conservatives tolerate being beaten into submission while leftists scream and yell when a conservative simply looks at them.
- The fiscal conservative/social liberal crowd thinks nationalism is evil, so they willingly accept anti-American views to show they are tolerant

etc.

The only thing that can save conservatives is making a national statement. Something like a general worker strike, nationwide, where all conservatives simply stay home because they are nonexistent to the current government would be a start. Getting Republicans to skip the SOTU would also be a big statement. Conservatives need to learn the importance of symbolism over substance. That’s the only thing low info voters care about.

This is a center-left country.

People may say they lead conservative lives but they still want and love Big Government.

Americans are nominal conservatives but are in practice are operational liberals.

There is no penalty in voting yourself more benefits. And the Democrats profit handsomely from the status quo.
