Two officers honored in shooting of naked woman

Two off-duty law enforcement officers involved in a deadly shooting in Hernando County have been honored by the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

In October, Tampa police officer William Mechler and Hernando sheriff's deputy Rocky Howard were off-duty when they shot and killed a naked 42-year-old woman. The officers said Inga Marie Swanson was threatening a group of people.

On Wednesday, both men received the Medal of Valor, which is the highest honor given by the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

Two months after the shooting, the State Attorney's Office cleared the two men of wrongdoing in the shooting.

Sheriff Al Nienhuis said the officers earned the honor by being willing to put their lives on the line, according to Bay News 9's partner paper, the Tampa Bay Times.

It's called “excited delirium”.

Thanks for your post. The sheep on this site who posted their garbage without questioning prefer ignorance.

Yep.
I can think of at least two incidents, off-hand, where the cops were called to help control a mentally disabled family member. In both of those cases, the officers arrived and the family pleaded with them to help control the individual, to which the cops responded by confronting the individual, killing them, and then claiming that the killing was unavoidable.

One of those incidents involved a deaf man with a garden rake in Detroit.

“Never invite “The Man” into our life.”

Maybe they got marksmanship awards because they didn't shoot: other people, dogs, cars, other cops, each other, etc.

Chill out now! It’s fully understandable if there were no dogs around to shoot, and no dognut shops to visit!

Similar to the biblical principal of settling disputes with your accuser before you get before the judge.

Threatening with what???

Witnesses and friends who saw her mere minutes before the shots were fired at her say she was holding a crucifix.....and she was naked.

The local PD much later stated she did in fact have a firearm. Though they declined to identify what kind of firearm.

This begs the question....Where the hell did she conceal it?
More importantly, did the two off duty officers mistake a crucifix for a pistol or revolver? That's not outside the realm of possibility. These two cops were at a party that the victim wandered into. Did these two heroes have anything to drink at this party? Were they under the influence?

Some very serious questions have NOT been asked before this one was just swept under the rug.

I really don’t have a comment on this. I’m just flabbergasted that a media outlet would willingly write a headline like that and not find something wrong with it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One word explains the headline: Floriduh.
I daresay this may be one of the tamer less bizarre headlines of the day.
Well one thing is certain: If she had a weapon it wasn’t concealed carry.
Not only do cops commit acts of murder, they get rewarded for it. Any cop-supporter want to chime in and explain why we shouldn’t be pissed as Hell at cops over stories such as this? I bet not a single other cop stood up for this innocent victim of murder by cop.
She had her off duty cc weapon. A brand new purple vibrator. Don’t really know where she was carrying/hiding it
