The commander of the Naval Special Warfare Command denies allegations made in an Esquire feature article that the SEAL team member who claims he first shot Osama bin Laden was left in the dark about what benefits were available to him after he left the service.
"This former SEAL made a deliberate and informed decision to leave the Navy several years short of retirement status," Rear Adm. Sean Pybus, commander of Naval Special Warfare Command, wrote in a statement. "Months ahead of his separation, he was counseled on status and benefits, and provided with options to continue his career until retirement eligible. Claims to the contrary in these matters are false."
Pybus said he is "very disappointed with the few people who use their SEAL cachet for self-serving purposes, particularly through falsehoods and certainly when the safety and security of themselves and their active-duty teammates and families are put at risk."
However, he said the Navy will help the former SEAL "address health or transition issues, as we would for other former members."

My 1st thought was he was a fool to get out @ 16 vs wait till 20.
And now hes bitching....Hmmmmmmmmmm?
The Navy has policies and procedures just like any other work place.
Pretty easy with the personnel data there, aren’t we Commander?
I guess he claimed a disability that got denied, PBLSD, Posr Bin Laden Stress Disorder.

If I was that soldier and lost 26 of my SEAL buddies in a single helicopter crash,
and there was no credible government investigation into who, what , why... in a single group
I might believe that my life was in jeopardy by remaining in the service.
When we have a CIC , who says “I stand with the muslims...”
and who has bent over backwards in funding ,arming , encouraging ‘Arab Spring’,
and placing muslims inside his cabinet in key positions ,the Dept. of State , and the CIA
I might think that my life expectancy continuing in the Service isn’t too great, and would consider premature departure .
What are you referring to? What personal information did the “commander” reveal. I didn’t see any. What he said is what all military departees receive as far as briefings and information of what is available to them once they are out. That is not personal information
You might have legitimate reasons for that early departure. However, you cannot expect to receive benefits for which you did not qualify.
The only thing we know is the statement the story’s author made on Hannity about why this man left the service early. The explanation was that he wanted more excitment than a desk job would offer but didn’t want to be in active combat any more. If that was his choice, it was a pretty petualnt one. Four years to a full retirement with medical benefits for himself and his family just isn’t that much time, given the rewards that four years of time serving would provide. Many other people, civilian and military, stick with jobs they don’t like just so they can make it to retirement. Given the generosity of the benefits he would have received for an inconvenience, it looks like he was a fool who ought be left to sleep in his own bed.
Everybody in the service knows 20 years is the minimum requirement for retirement benefits. Even those who have no intent on making it a career know 20 is the number. A 16 year veteran would probably have a pretty good idea what the monthly payout would be.
This story sounded like BS from the get-go.
Of the 38 who died, only 17 were SEALs.
