The price of many fast food items would tick up slightly if one assemblyman's bill makes it through the Nevada Legislature.

Democratic Las Vegas Assemblyman Harvey Munford introduced Assembly Bill 122 during the floor session Thursday. The bill proposes a 5-cent tax, paid by the customer, for each item over 500 calories.

Munford says he hopes the tax would deter people from eating out so frequently. He adds that the revenue would be directed to helping hospitals and improving Nevada's education system.

How about a tax on abortions then, Einstein?

Obviously this guy has no experience in accounting or setting up register systems. Basing a tax on calories? Top that burden with increase in minimum wage and healthcare rules who in their right mind would want to own a hamburger joint?

Just make EBT cards non-functional in ‘fast food’ restaurants and society would be amazed at the weight loss in targeted populations.

These are the same idiots that want to raise the minimum wage which causes fast food restraunts to cut staff but they think this grows the economy.

Totally clueless to how the real business world works.

Here in Indiana they are wanting toincrease the $ valuation of farmland and estimate an additional $57 million in revenue!

That is $57 million taken from producers and given to non-producers.

“Just make EBT cards non-functional in ‘fast food’ restaurants and society would be amazed at the weight loss in targeted populations.”

My first job was bagboy in a bad neighborhood. I was astonished that the vast majority of the grossly fat patrons were on food stamps. How is it that the “poor” in America are the grossly fat people and the “rich” are, as a general rule, much more reasonably proportioned? I have always wondered if an eating disorder was part of a larger issue that also included an inability or unwillingness to work for a living.

Here’s a clue. When your thighs have no visible separation until below your knees, you’re grossly fat.

Lawmakers like this need to be reminded that we live in a very diverse society. We have a lot of intelligent, well-educated people but we also have a lot of less intelligent, frankly ignorant people. This politician has been placed in a position of power to represent all of the people, including people who make poor personal choices.

We still have smokers, we have people who abuse alcohol/drugs, we have people who won't exercise, and we have people who chronically eat garbage. It's tragic, really, but these people should not be singled out and punished with taxes.

Sir, represent all the people, not just your more capable friends.

I propose a tax on all legislation be charged to the original authors of said bills. Double the tax if it doesn’t affect themselves or if they are exempt from it.

If this clown wants to get anywhere in Nevada politics he had better make sure that Taco Bell is exempt.

The real reasons for this clown’s bill to raise taxes can be determined by Google+Democrat+taxes+spend.

Incredible. And this mental midget works in a state that lives on the tourist industry and is just digging out from the last Obama disaster.

Here's a question. Is "fast food" any less healthy than the standard casino buffet? Those all-you-can-eat ones are probably worse for your health than Wendy's or Burger King. How well would a tax on casino buffets go over with the mob bosses?

To add knowledge to the story;

Mr Munford (b: 1940) is a retired Las Vegas school teacher and former pro basketball player with the LA Lakers.

Remember the mantra of the left about getting Republicans out of their bedrooms? I want Democrats out of my LIFE, period!

If people dined out less often, there would be room for this slut in all the restaurants, so he could dine out as often as he does without waiting.

Idiot. Bill is DOA. Much of Nevada’s economy depends on dining out.
