We’ll come to the particular “goal” he “issued” momentarily, but before we do, consider that formulation: Did you know the president of the United States is now in the business of “issuing goals” for his subjects to live up to?
Strange how the monarchical urge persists even in a republic two-and-a-third centuries old. Many commentators have pointed out that the modern State of the Union is in fairly obvious mimicry of the Speech from the Throne that precedes a new legislative session in British Commonwealth countries and continental monarchies, but this is to miss the key difference. When the Queen or her viceroy reads a Throne Speech in Westminster, Ottawa, or Canberra, it’s usually the work of a government with a Parliamentary majority: In other words, the stuff she’s announcing is actually going to happen. That’s why, lest any enthusiasm for this or that legislative proposal be detected, the apolitical monarch overcompensates by reading everything in as flat and unexpressive a monotone as possible. Underneath the ancient rituals — the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod getting the door of the House of Commons slammed in his face three times — it’s actually a very workmanlike affair.

I’ve seen his type before, and he is not a self-made man. His whole persona is fabricated, and all of his ideas and ideology are the creation of someone else. Without careful grooming and backing, he would be homeless, dead or in prison by now.
Ticks me off to no end - I took an incentive retirement package mainly because it offered lifetime bennies.
I knew it was at risk if the company folded, but never dreamed our government would take it from me.
I worked for decades for this benefit, and now the thief-in-chief wants to take it and give it to slackers and illegal aliens.

Yes, well, having watched someone as buffoonish as BJ Clintoon not only get elected, but RE-elected, then watching as AlGore came within a hair's-breadth of stealing an election, THEN undergoing with appalled disbelief the repeat of history with The Won, someone with not only blatant socialist beliefs but almost indisputably not even a Citizen get not only elected but RE-ELECTED, I think your clinging to The Vote as the process currently stands needs some reevaluation.
Is he the same guy as the Stick-in-Waiting? Or do they just share adjacent alcoves in the palace?
As for the overall theme of the piece, we've known that Obama's crowd is all about decree law ever since that "Stroke of the pen, law of the land" comment.
