YPSILANTI, Mich. More than 21 years after she went to prison, Barbara Hernandez enters the cinderblock visitation chamber at the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility in the turquoise blouse with applique flowers she keeps for special occasions. Her makeup is carefully applied but cannot hide the age lines that spread, thin but unmistakable, from the corners of her eyes.
"Thank you for coming," the 38-year-old inmate says softly. Her eyes, chestnut and brooding, are offset by a gentle smile. She holds out a hand in welcome.

Not to lessen the crime but there are no innocent victims in this case. The man had a fiancee and was “lured” into an abandoned building by a 16yo. WTF
The victim had her hair clutched in her hands from when she was on top of him and stabbing him many times. She should have gone to the chair!
gentle smile? bee ess, she is a cold hearted murderer or she wouldn’t be there
And the abuses she had to endure as a child she will never outgrow either........
No parents to raise her properly and years of abuse, it's no wonder she became an addict and prostitute before she was even 16.....Hell, kids aren't even allowed to drive until they're 16.
She's done her time and lived thru her own hell, let her out and let her experience a real life that she's never experienced. Hopefully one in which she can find real love and support.....
He got the death penalty for it.
To bad her victim can’t decide to stop being dead.....

Lots of kids endure that kind of childhood and yet never murder anyone.
So. . .when is she moving in with you?
Seriously though, one must ask the question: Who would trust this murderer alone (or “supervised” in a half-way house), wandering through society? She has her broken early life AND now over 20-yrs in prison to give her an excuse to murder when she “experiences a real life” that causes her to feel isolated, taken advantage of, ostracized, working a menial job (if she works at all), etc. . .she can murder again because it is not her fault, after all, she is a victim of her environment.
Not being snarky at you, just making a statement.
To author Geller: Killer Hispanic; victim white. Hmm. Let the killer go, she has gotten closer to forgiving herself.
The usual prisoner rights pap. How about this deal: Release her the second she brings James Cotaling back to life and restores his family and friends to their former selves?
Well at least in MI life means life. Maybe.
And many of those ultimately commit suicide, or become drug addicts and die of drug overdoses.......
Life in Michigan is a harsh sentence even if you’re NOT in prison.
Yeah, was just being fatuous - mossies the size of hummingbirds and where snow lives when it’s summer in the southern US.
Maybe grown men shouldn’t be picking up teenage hookers.
She’s done her time and lived thru her own hell, let her out and let her experience a real life that she’s never experienced.
Gee...what could possibly go wrong with that plan?
The poster’s comment sounds like what Celine Dion said about the Katrina looters, “They’ve never touched nice things, let them touch!”
Even if the men are Democrat Senetors?
We have all been condemned to die a physical death for our sins. Not unlike people who get swindled cause of their greed.
Not gonna happen ... Michigan does not have the death penalty. And it’s either Michigan or Wisconsin that does not now have, nor ever has had in all the time it’s been a state, capital punishment.
