Crime is down in the 'D' and I am the Easter Bunny

DETROIT -- Everybody got their five minutes with Dave. Everybody got to pet the bunny. Everybody but poor ol' me.

After his Wednesday State of the City speech, Mayor Dave Bing's men passed him around to the media, each outlet getting a whopping five minutes to feed Hizzoner carrots -- five minutes is an old-school political way of keeping the q & a superficial. That's how you interview Hollywood starlets, not serious public servants.

My bosses nominated me for the chore. But Dave was a scared rabbit. Dave said no. Dave's guy told my boss: "This is not the right time."

Maybe some other reporter, they offered.

My bosses at FOX 2 told the mayor's man no. Nobody tells them how to run their newsroom. And so Mayor Hasenpfeffer got no added airtime on Channel 2.

........

What would I have asked Dave? What are you doing about crime? The cops have quit. Arrests are down. Murder and shootings are way up. Dave says all other violent crime is down.

I would not let him get away with that. Police precincts close after 4pm. People have stopped calling the police. So crime statistically goes down. Give us something better Dave. People were looking for hope. He gave them the hand.

Firefighters have stopped waiting for ambulances because they come late or not at all. This would be just a three million dollar fix by many estimates. But over four years Dave has overseen its collapse.

Public safety is job number one for any mayor and Bing has failed.

Fifty years of democraps in Detroit. The sad part is that Bing might be the least worst of the mayors outside of maybe Gribbs or Archer.

I like Charlie but its a good thing he has nothing but Democrats to beat up on. OTOH the country could use more investigative reporter types like him.

The simple fact is that Bing is about as good as its gonna get in Detroit. The saddest part is that once Dave Bing is gone, the city will fall back into the hands of one of the 3 ruling clans in Detroit.

If the government can’t protect you or your property, then why would you pay them any taxes?

Archer saw the graffiti on the wall and didn’t bother seeking a second term.........

That's part of the problem already. There isn't enough of a tax base to pay for police. (not that Detroit police are all that useful anyway)

Fighting crime for Democrats will always be a failure because they disarm the public, they are soft on crime, they pass ineffective laws, they don’t punish criminals, and they lead with the example of immorality.

Crime is down in Detroit? OK,I can believe that. The claim is completely plausible because there's nothing left in Detroit to burn...nothing left to steal...nobody left to rape or murder.

I hope Charlie gets combat pay. Detroit seems like Beirut anymore. And I thought in the ‘70’s it couldn’t get worse.

Have they laid off the Assistant to the Deputy to the Undersecretary of the Commissioner on Polar Bears in Detroit? Government has become an employment agency where people go to find their sisters and nephews and cousins nice jobs. Go to city hall and see how many empty offices you find. There’s always some money. Leadership is about getting the most from every hard-earned tax dollar. The Democrat party is about stealing tax money to give to themselves, friends and relatives.
