So, a manufacturer sells to a distributor. Transaction is taxed. Distributor sells to a wholesaler - likewise. Wholesaler sells to retailer - likewise. Retailer sells to consumer - likewise. Consumer sells at a garage sale - likewise.

I count 5 times the same item is taxed. That's B.S.

Sales taxes on transactions before it gets to the end user is essentially a VAT. Dayton will drive business out of MN like a good little commiecrat

Dayton is a tax and spend liberal of the first order and now that the DFL has control of both houses of the Legislature let the new taxes begin. His tax plan also includes for the first time broadening the sales tax to include clothing. To placate the masses the tax would only apply to clothing costing over $100, but try to find a coat for your kids to keep them warm during a Minnesota winter for less than $100. Like Obama with his $200,000 being “enough” income Dayton is saying $100 is too much to spend on your clothes. Perhaps Minnesota voters will wake up and ask why isn’t Dayton cutting the bloated state budget rather than raising taxes?

We have a Republican Women’s group in Texas (PAC) which periodically holds fundraiser. Items we sell at auction are all donated, most of them by members who purchase them out of their own pocket and pay tax at the time of purchase. As an organization, we also have to pay sales tax on whatever we make from the auction of the items again to the State of Texas. So all is not quite so rosy even here! I agree - it is B.S.
