Shoot my dog, and I’ll assume I’m next and react accordingly.

How much of this do you attribute to the uncontrolled influx of people from other countries who bring their cultures here where regard for the law is barely above subsistence, as opposed to the general decay of generational Americans?

Ah, you have a good question there, which is a question for a question. And I 'm stumped as to where one would find believable statistics. I just know that at the time my values were being formed, people minded their dogs, their children, and their elders. The only place you'd find four-letter words was on the walls of the boy's (and girl's) restrooms, not in magazines, novels, radio, movies, and later TV. The only drug of concern was alcohol. No one could even spell cannabis or phenobarbital. Police were upright and regarded with high respect -- by young boys as heroes. Police did not shoot dogs, unless very unusually a rabid dog appeared. I could go on and on, but the sea change came with the popularization of rock and roll, Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, the Vietnam War, LSD, marijuana, and later cocaine. I think the "Playboy Philosophy" had a great deal to do with the undermining of common morality. Mark that well. The Immigration and Naturalization Service was pretty choosy about whom they let into the country, and even choosier about whom they allowed to stay. Etc, etc.

I hate this whole mess that has been allowed to develop under continual never-ceasing socialistic prodding and agitation. But on this dog owners vs police thing, I get real concerned when otherwise intelligent folks leap blindly and headlong into supporting these owners and their poor little doggies, without pausing to consider that their compassion may be misplaced; and that there are always two sides to the issue. Mostly, the radical left has been constantly working overtime to plant firmly in the minds of the general American reading (or texting) public that the police are generally corrupt, crooked, and not worthy of the trust of the ordinary citizen. I say that its a damnable lie, and to fall in that morass is to just resign ones own civic duties in the trash.

I wish I had the gift of saying this in a few words, as many FReepers do.
