3 political sisters in Pa. convicted of corruption

Pittsburgh (AP) — The story has more irony than a Greek tragedy. Three sisters from a devoutly Catholic family have seen their personal and political careers ruined by a scandal that began with, of all things, a letter to some nuns.

Thursday's conviction of suspended Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin along with her aide and sister, Janine Orie, on campaign corruption charges mean they might join a third sister — former state Sen. Jane Orie — in state prison. No sentencing date has been set.

The former senator was sentenced last year to 2½ to 10 years for using her state-paid staff to run her campaigns, though she was acquitted of having them campaign for Melvin, then a lower appellate court judge, who was running for the Supreme Court in 2003 and 2009. Joan Orie Melvin and Janine Orie were convicted in a spinoff investigation and found guilty of similarly misusing Melvin's former staff and the senator's.

From the article...

Jim Roddey is a prominent businessman who heads the Republican Party in Allegheny County, where Republicans are outnumbered more than 2 to 1 by Democrats...

Roddy..another RINO...Jacobs as well...

Out numbered 2-1? Might as well be 20-1 if you include the freaking RINOs here!

When McCain/Palin was the ticket I went to the republican HQ in the Jacobs building in Greentree near Pittsburgh. When I asked for a sign that included Palin I was ridiculed. McCain is the candidate I was told. Come back later.

So I did and when I again POLITELY asked for signage that included Palin you would have thought I was a leper.

My sons and I were told to leave.

This is the problem with Pennsylvania republicans. Heinz, Roddy, Spector, Ridge, Santorum , the Ories. All party hacks. Conservatives should embrace what the (state/national) GOP proposes and be grateful for the occasional bone we get tossed.

NO MORE YOU JACKWAGONS! NO MORE!

You want my vote give me someone I can vote for and shove your "if you don't vote R it's a vote for a D" where the sun don't shine right along side your big, fat heads!

We need to elect good conservatives to the state committee & get the hell rid of Gleason. That’s the only way we stand a remote chance of changing this damn party.

Purge the RINOs

Well, I totally disagree with you about Rick and Pat. The Hillman crowd in no way supported either man. Nor did they co-opt them. Toomey’s only disgrace: Voting for the fudge packers agenda. (It’s disgusting, I know.) Santorum went along with the numbskull Bush on occasion, and supported Specter, but no one is perfect. If Rick had Reagan as his President, these odious measures would have been strangled in the cradle. But the “New (Progressive) Tone” Bush made life pretty miserable for conservatives who wanted to do the right thing. Bob

In addition to supporting the repeal of DADT, Toomey also expressed support for Sotomayor. Hardly a conservative:

Calling them “devout Catholics” is important to this story because.......?
Because the writer hates Catholics almost as much as he/she hate Republicans and it just seemed like a fun thing to do.

“Corbett (another Republican governor opted to carry out the Medicaid expansion called for in Obamacare”

Did Corbett opt PA in for the medicaid expansion? I didn’t think he did. This article, from February 5th, says he notified Sebelius that PA would NOT participate:
