Or even good “dirty” fun...

It’s much more than a physical thing. It’s spiritual, in its imaginations usurping the place that the Holy Spirit rightfully has. Otherwise, to look at it as a physical habit only, it might be ranked with things more like smoking than like sorcery.

I don't know if I agree with your characterization of same-sex attraction. It's a temptation that can lead to lust and then sin, but it's not a sin by itself.

I know Christian alcoholics who always seem to have a weakness for alcohol even though they never act on it. The temptation to drink seems to affect them less and less as years go by, a growing process that I've seen take decades, but they still (generally) have twinges from time to time, maybe even years apart.

I suspect the same thing applies to same-sex attraction. In other words, there's nothing wrong with same-sex attraction itself. It's only a sin when one dwells on that temptation and falls into lust (a strong desire to act on the it).

We're not talking about stray thoughts, like noticing someone of the same sex is attractive. I'm talking about actual lust, the strong desire to have sex with that person. One may not even act on the desire at the point, but if they wish they could, they've sinned, like whoever looks at a woman with lust in his heart has already committed adultery.

I've seen people really agonize over impure thoughts. They seem to (incorrectly) think that Christianity means they'll never be tempted. You can't stop stray thoughts, although a well disciplined spiritual mind is better prepared to resist them. If I see I nice car, for example, I can't help admiring it. It only becomes a sin when I (selfishly) wish I could steal or destroy it.

If I've inaccurately interpreted scripture, please explain.
