Many Republican governors who worked to thwart much of President Barack Obamas first-term agenda are shifting gears and softening their rhetoric now that his run was extended for four more years and theyre facing their own re-election.
These state leaders are offering greater cooperation on health care and skipping the tough talk on immigration, taking a cue from voters who in last Novembers election expressed their opposition to partisan gridlock in Washington.
For many governors, the new approach reflects not just the specific needs of their states but also the realities of the political calendar: Nearly two dozen GOP governors elected in 2009 and 2010 could face the voters again.
The shift is most pronounced on health care, where seven states led by Republican governors are pushing to expand their Medicaid program under Obamas health care law. Such a move once was considered anathema in the party.

In other words, CAVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Hell is coming to breakfast” - from The Outlaw Josie Wales.
These GOP Governors could be replaced for not doing what the 'real' voters are demanding!!!
John Kasich had promise. Too bad he pandered to the FSA. I will not vote for him. I’m of the persuasion that the folks deserve the government they get. If they want BIG Government, they should pay for it.
I’m going Galt.

AP is at it again this time using hacks Ken Thomas and Steve Peoples spreading the dung that the Republican governors are so intimidated by Obama popularity polling. Republican governors won’t dare cite, corruption, and waste, as well as the federal bureaucratic pits, traps, hoops, and block horses created by agencies such as the EPA, that their small businesses have to jump over to stay alive. Let alone make a profit...Then connect those policy dots directly to the sequester and this regimes inept administration.
It’s time for the Republicans governors to start throwing the dung back
Free money!
What happened in Ohio...and what I presume is happening in other states is this:
Republican governors are saying, “Yeah, feds, you can pay for 100% of our Medicaid (or is it Medicare?) for the next three years. We’ll take it. Oh, by the way: we are NOT going to open any healthcare exchanges on our dime. We refuse to do that, so you feds will have to do that, too.”
Feds were hoping states would pay for their own “exchanges”...and, IIRC, the feds do NOT have a funding mechanism for running their own exchanges...a big oversight in the law. This is causing stress on the federal system—which is a good thing.
We will see how it plays out in three years. I am betting the public will NOT be happy with Obamacare. Also, the Republican House, the only responsible element of the federal law-making apparatus right now, has the purse strings.
Obama is in a legal bind, assuming the law is still relevant.
