>>Or what if a thief grabbed a bus rider’s iPhone — a not-uncommon crime — and an armed commuter tried to stop the criminal?<<

A lot fewer iPhone thefts. Guaranteed.

Oh, the horror. Just imagine, law abiding citizens would be allowed to protect themselves from murderous thugs in Chicago and elsewhere in Illinois..

Yes...and?

and did even a single person say anything about ways to stop the thief? No? Just ways to stop the victim from defending themselves?

You have to ‘think’ like a liberal.
Granted, if more people are armed, the chances of random, violent crime will drop sooner rather than later.

Now, if you take normal street crime away from petty thieves, that just puts more of ‘them’ out of work.

It will basically be the same premise as speed and red light cameras. If they do what they are designed to do - reduce speeding and red light running,— while it is a ‘good’ thing, in the mind of the people that supply the ‘safety’ equipment it is a bad thing, if people DON’T break the law, they go out of business, or at the least, don’t make any money..

Much the same reason the ‘War’ on terror, ‘War’ on drugs, ‘War’ on crime will NEVER end...too much money to be lost and the unemployment rate would skyrocket....

This comes closer to confirming what I suspected all along- when criminals get into elected office, they disarm the citizens to help other criminals operate.

I believe - no, I know - that criminals are very adept at scanning their surroundings for easy victims to act against, and also for the sort of person it is better not to mess with. Without a rather uncanny ability in this skill, Darwin makes sure they don’t last long.

I also know that people who carry concealed have a subtle something, a certain quiet air about them, a sober, settled quality they project that I’m convinced a criminal can pick up on.

I think the man’s fears are not about what might happen, but about what might not happen.

An armed society is a polite society.

So the presumption is that a responsible, armed civilian will kill another because of a petty theft?

I don’t think so...

I don’t own a car,
because i want MY money to go far.
I don’t ride a bicycle,
because the local hicks weave on the white lines!
I don’t walk, as far anymore,
because my PAD legs get sore.
I don’t take a cab,
because its 20 bucks to the country mile.

Soooo, all ye Chi-cah-go aldermen,
I ride my Louisiana ‘grandma shopping mall’
transit system, stay inside the parish,
with my license in my wallet, and either
off-the-body, or on-the-body, off I go!

The liberals still hate Bernard Goetz!

Long Live The Republic!

There are a lot of guns on CTA trains and buses RIGHT NOW IN CHICAGO all being toted by gangsta youths and gang bangers.

White people and law abiding Blacks ride at your own peril.

People in Illinois are to stupid to make decisions for them selves about how, where and when to defend themselves so the Liberal idiots have to regulate so it null in voids the CCL.

I believe it is hilarious when you can get the gun-control minions to “What if”...

I guess they are worried that the voting pool will be cleansed/purged if a number of their malcontents are expunged because of their criminal activity...

What a shame that might be “if” it ever happens...

These kind of articles always make me wonder where these scenarios are playing out - exactly where are drunks being shot on trains, etc.? Lots of cities in concealed carry states (like Texas and Florida) have trains and buses and no doubt lots of armed civilians - so where is the bloodbath.

Or perhaps they’re really scared of something else. That a gun will really be used in self-defense against a band of “locals” that make a career out of robbing IDIOTS from the suburbs that think it’s safe to go to the city for culture and crap like that. For now the city elders can just deny it ever happens, as the media won’t report it, since it “stigmatizes” protected classes of society - but when those IDIOTS start shooting back (and I only call them idiots because they go there in the first place), it will have to be reported - and that will pretty much be the end of “downtown” for millions of people, and billions of dollars.

Oh the horrors. What if the citizens shot the criminal and threw him off the train. Why, that might make other criminals hesitate to rob people on trains.

One major difference between CTA vehicles and commercial aircraft which I've not seen mentioned is that passengers on a commercial aircraft may check their firearm when boarding and receive it, at their destination, after disembarking, but the only practical means via which the CTA could allow passengers to have their firearm when they reach their destination would be for it to allow passengers to simply carry them. Even if CTA trains and buses were 100% crime-free, that wouldn't mean that travelers wouldn't need their weapons after reaching their destinations.
