Secretary of State John Kerry invents new country: ‘Kyrzakhstan’

Newly minted Secretary of State John Kerry is sweeping through Europe and the Middle East on a nine-nation tour, meeting with top global heads to forge diplomatic relations — and, apparently, even creating new countries.

Mr. Kerry was trying to praise diplomats who were working on behalf of the United States in the Central Asian region, but in doing so, he created a new country. He thanked the diplomats for their work in “Kyrzakhstan,” according to various media reports, and credited their efforts in “support [of] democratic institutions in Kyrzakhstan and Georgia.”

The National Review suggests Mr. Kerry could have confused America’s major ally in the war on terrorism, Kyrgyzstan, with its neighbor to the north, Kazakhstan.

Call it the flub heard ‘round the world. The British daily The Telegraph kindly pointed out that Mr. Kerry is not the first high-ranking U.S. official to mix up the proper names of all the “-stan” countries that came on the heels of the Soviet Union’s collapse.

Ok, I would not have known it wasn't a country before reading this. This is not a Joe Biden level of flub, nor an Obama calling a Marine a "coprse man" level flub. Its actually an understandable one and hardly a big deal.

The reasons not to appreciate Kerry are numerous enough without stooping to nit picking.

I should note that the story fails to mention that Kyrgyzstan is also a country in the region, and while the article inferred this spelling, he simply blended Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

But it couldn’t have happened to a nicer moron. :)

Not necessarily in this case. The comedian would run the risk of messing up the names themselves. Also attacks on Republicans dont have to be based on real events. Late night comedians can just make stuff up or misunderstand or twist contexts or misattribute.

There is just no way we can make it fair for our side in the arena of unfair nit picking. So I say don't fight that way, and stick to reasonable and more compelling honest criticisms...of which there is no shortage of material which would compel us to go making stuff up or exaggerating.
