Restaurant Owner Finds Dedicated Teen Walking 10 Snowy Miles for Job Interview

Art Bouvier, the owner of a New Orleans-inspired restaurant located in Indianapolis saw a young man trudging through the early morning snow and ice last week. The teen stopped to ask Bouvier — who owns Papa Roux Po Boys and Cajun Food– how much further it might be to his final destination and was told it was six to seven miles.

“He thanked me and continued on,” Bouvier, who also goes by Papa, wrote of the encounter in a now viral Facebook post. “He could have asked me for money for a bus. In fact I quite expected him to. He didn’t. He just started walking.”

To a local news station, Fox 59, Bouvier added that the teen later said he wouldn’t have money for a bus ride until he got a job.

Bouvier continued in his post that 15 minutes later he was in the car and told his wife to pull over when he spotted the teen — still walking.

That’s when he found out the 18-year-old named Jhaqueil Reagan had intended to walk a full 10 miles for a job interview. The Bouviers gave Reagan a ride the rest of the distance — but that’s not all.

“I’m thinking to myself, here’s a kid walking almost 10 miles in the ice and slush and snow for the hope of a job at minimum wage,” Bouvier told Fox 59. “That’s the kind of story your parents used to tell, my parents used to tell, up both ways in the snow.”

Bouvier took Reagan’s phone number advising him to keep his interview, but noted he would see if he could hire him at Papa Roux.

In a phone interview with TheBlaze, Bouvier went on to say he told Reagan whatever the other shop offered him, he would double it.

I’m sure in Obama’s mind - the teen was able to get the job because govt built roads and regulate vehicles to the point that only working vehicles can be on the road — so the teen owes his success to Big Govt.

...and of course - the rest of us know that this is a teen dedicated to his family - that despite leaving school - finished his education to support his family - and is worth double in pay! The govt can’t give that to anyone!!!

Glad Someone HIGH is looking out for this kid and his siblings!

Great story. This economy is killing our youth. My own son, squandered a decent job and spent the next year unemployed. I pray American youth will be strengthened by their sacrifices. I pray the taker generation will be shamed into becoming productive again. We need this conversation to happen. Thanks to the Blaze, for your new- found youth, and your determination. GOP, Burn In Hell for this! Yes, I blame the complicit GOP for not standing up for these kids. This is a lost generation, disconnected from God, family and opportunity. I will reach those I can.

The ‘saddest’ part of this is when the kid works long enough to put some money away or buy something ‘decent’ to wear, the lads that didn’t get to bed till 5AM will be waiting for him at 9PM to steal his shoes or hat or coat and if he should ‘disrespect’ them or (horrors) pick them out so they can be punished for their evil ways, he will get to make the ‘supreme sacrifice’.
AND the neighborhood will rally ‘round the thugs - once the obligatory candle vigil and town hall meeting to reduce crime - not enough police, too many police, take your pick.
And if the restaurant owner should take a stand in the youths behalf, the thugs will just trash his establishment or harass the customers frequenting his place.
So when he closes his business ‘they’ will protest that the reason there are no decent restaurants, super markets, departments stores etc in their ‘hood’ is because whitey is prejudiced and wont spend his money there.

All this because the Mr. Bouvier CARED and did the ‘right thing’ by offering Jhaqueil Reagan a ride and job.

You may ‘accuse’ me of being cynical, then again, you are probably correct.

Kudos to Mr. Bouvier and the enterprising young lad anyway.

Nice story and all, but, before I signed on, I would find out what exact kind of meat do you put into a ‘Po Boy’?

Jhaqueil Reagan

I'll admit I was rather disappointed. After looking long and far for something to give me hope that the "inner city yutes" were not totally useless I came across this article.

"Jhaqueil" Now there's a good black sounding name!! Finally a good one!!

From his picture he's white as the driven snow.

Ah well, I pray the best for Mr Reagan and for the restaurant and it's owner. I'll eat there when I get up to Indy.

On more important news, Mac daddy takes his 250th vacation, at the tax payers expense of $20,000,000.00, after a grueling work schedule of 4 hours.

This story was a real heart warmer. (Short video interview at link.)

The fact that the restaurant owner’s Facebook account went viral shows that there are a lot people out there who still know and applaud what is good and right.
