GHNS -- A not-so-small miracle is unfolding before our eyes. After nearly two decades in which established opinion insisted that it would never again be possible to pass sensible regulations of firearms, the unthinkable is on the verge of happening.
This week, Sen. Patrick Leahy, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, is expected to announce plans to start marking up gun bills to send to the Senate floor, proposals that will include ideas put before the country by President Obama and Vice President Biden. The president’s agenda, in turn, was inspired by advocates and legislators, mayors and police chiefs, who have been working quietly in the wilderness for years.
Told over and over again that members of both parties were forever destined to do the National Rifle Association’s bidding, these supporters of thoroughly moderate and reasonable weapons measures never gave up and never surrendered. Their time has come.
Behind the miracle, of course, lies the profound tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School and the loss of “26 beautiful lives,” as Lynn McDonnell, mother of 7-year-old Grace McDonnell, one of those beautiful lives, put it at a conference in Connecticut last week.
The fact that he and Biden have refused to let the issue fade away has also made a difference. Once it became clear that neither they nor anyone else on the side of gun sanity would be intimidated by the NRA, the bullies were revealed for what they are

Suddenly, Americans in large numbers (and the media, too) started noticing how extreme, even wacky, the rhetoric of the gun manufacturers’ lobby has become.

Should the desire of a small minority of Americans to own them really trump the safety of everyone else, including schoolchildren?

The chances that guys like EJ Dionne & Patrick Leahy will overstep with their extremist agenda, and have it shoved back down their totalitarian minded throats, are increasing every day.

The real “gun miracle” is an aroused gun-owning gun right-supporting public, enabled by social media like never before.
Gun ownership is for the first time officially a `women’s issue’ about personal defense and don’t lecture women about “limits” on the means of defense a la Biden.
The guilting of those who own “assault weapons” is wearing thin, & owners are replying “Yes I own one. What’s your point?”
And there’s a growing backlash against those who sneer, “But you don’t NEEEEEED an assault weapon!!”
Don’t tell me what I need or don’t need, Chuckie.
Maybe E.J. Dionne the bow tied little scrivener of the Left needs to march into a gun show or firing range & start wagging his scolding finger at the `yahoos’ & see what transpires.
EJ hates guns and loves abortion.
How about doing the bidding of 80,000,000 gun owners?
But seeing how our Rulers regularly ignore the American people's wishes on immigration, outsourcing, taxes, and just about everything else we can expect them to ignore us regarding our 2nd Amendment rights as well.
EJ needs to get out of that bubble that ends at the beltway.
It is now cool to own a gun.
Make that an AR15 with a 30 round magazine!
What they really want to do is cause a reaction by someone on our side of the issue against some poor shlups they get to start round up these personal defensive weapons and get a few of their own killed in the process...Therefore justifying their position and existance...
Once that line has been crossed, I believe a lot of folks on our side will cave in, not willing to defend against this tyrrany, and will gladly want the heat off them by snitching on folks they know who will not give in as they have...Don’t think for a second that certain members of your own family close or extended will keep their mouths shut...
Time is comeing where we are going to need to do that ultimate gut-check and decide what your liberties and freedoms are worth...
At which time, hopefully very quickly the tables will be turned and they will be the ones that have to decide is it worth it to them...
I’d like to keep it in the courts and in the legislatures, but they seem to want to get it in the streets, everything they are doing is designed to enrage those in our ranks...They see that as a win/win for them, as I hope most of us realize it will be a lose/lose proposition in reality...
But they will keep pushing...Hopefully cooler heads will prevail, but I have my doubts...
