Senate approves Hagel as new secretary of defense

WASHINGTON | Tue Feb 26, 2013 5:47pm EST

(Reuters) - The Senate on Tuesday confirmed Chuck Hagel as President Barack Obama's new secretary of defense, ending an unusually acrimonious confirmation fight.

The Senate voted 58-41 to confirm the former Republican senator as the civilian leader of the Pentagon in a largely party line vote. Just four Republicans joined the Democrats and independents in support of Hagel's nomination.

The Senate had voted earlier on Tuesday to end debate and move forward, almost two weeks after Republicans launched a filibuster to block Hagel's nomination. It was the first time such a procedural tactic had been used to delay consideration of a nominee for secretary of defense.

The battle over Hagel's confirmation, a hard-fought victory for the Obama administration, is one of many bitter partisan struggles between Democrats and Republicans at a time when Congress is widely criticized for its inability to agree on even the most basic measures to run the country.

“Orthodox Jews are more likely to vote Republican than other Jews because they identify with the party’s more conservative positions on samesex marriage, abortion, church-state separation and other social issues.

And Orthodox Jews are far more likely to put Israel as a top priority in making choices at the polls.

Last year Orthodox Jews voted 86% Republican compared to 28% among the non-Orthodox. By comparison, 72% of non-Orthodox and 14% of Orthodox Jews voted for Obama.”

He warned me never to trust American Jews.

Probably because of such people brought up like J. Robert Oppenheimer. From a recent bio, American Prometheus, describing JRO's German immigrant antecedents:

"Ethnically and culturally Jewish, the Oppenheimers of New York belonged to no synagogue. Without rejecting their Jewishness they chose to shape their identity within a uniquely American offshoot of Judaism—the Ethical Culture Society—that celebrated rationalism and a progressive brand of secular humanism.

What is unbelieveble to me is that no matter what Obama wants says or does, the Democrats fall in line to kiss his ass.

Can’t believe these traitors have done this. This means the Legislative bodies have been subverted by foreign money/interests.

The four Republican senators voting in favor were Thad Cochran (Miss.), Mike Johanns (Neb.), Richard C. Shelby (Ala.) and Rand Paul (Ky.).

Your father was right. Of all the Jewish branch of my family, I believe only two will never vote Democrat. Lawyers, college professors, one movie producer, even a nuclear physicist and they all vote Dem! What a bunch of over-educated idiots!

Here's what Rand Paul's mouthpiece had to say:

In the run-up to tonight’s vote to confirm former Sen. Hagel as secretary of defense, Sen. Paul voted twice against cloture on the nomination, because he agreed with many of his colleagues that there were questions that needed to be answered about the president’s nominee," Paul spokeswoman Moira Bagley told Yahoo News. "As he has said before, the president should be entitled to some leeway on his political appointments. That is why Sen. Paul voted in favor of Sen. John Kerry, with whom he largely disagrees on foreign policy, to serve as secretary of state, and that is why he voted for final passage of the nomination of Sen. Hagel this evening, with whom he also disagrees on a number of issues."

“Four Republicans voted to approve Hagel’s nomination: Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi, Sen. Mike Johanns of Nebraska and Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama.”

Rand probably put him out of any presidential run, Cochran is entrenched, Johanns is leaving next yr & Shelby is not up for re-election next yr. See how this corrupt "Two-Party Cartel" works their crapola. Believe me, if two of these POS didn't stand up then McCain & probably Snowe would have. I wonder what changed the mind of that other women senators from Nebr.(Deb something) who I thought was going to also vote for him.

My dad was Haganah.

Then why are you being a douchebag, and posting a dancing Orthodox Jew accompanied by anti-Jewish propaganda? Don't you know that 68% of Orthodox Jews voted for McCain in 2008, according to an RJC poll? I see your crap and many threads. Cut it out!

“While it true that only a small number of the population is Jewish but they have enormous influence in our Media.”
“My father was Hagganah.”

Then why are you posting anti-semetic cartoons on multiple threads? Does not seem very “Jewish” to me. Unless you are a self-hating Jew, or not a Jew at all.
