The Islamification of Texas

Imagine browsing Facebook one day and discovered a photograph of your 14-year-old daughter wearing a burqa – at school.

That’s exactly what happened to a parent in Lumberton, Tex. She asked me not to disclose her identity because she fears for her daughter’s safety.

Her daughter’s world geography class was supposed to be learning about the continents. Instead, they were given a tutorial in Islam – complete with authentic Muslim garments. Some of the young ladies were photographed – and the image has now gone viral.

The students were told the purpose of the class was to change their perceptions of Islam. They were instructed to no longer call those who commit terrorist attacks terrorists. Instead, the Muslim terrorists were to be called freedom fighters.

They were also assigned to write an essay based on a Washington Post story that blamed Egypt’s troubles on democracy – instead of the Muslim Brotherhood.

“I am outraged,” the angry mom told me. “I felt my blood pressure go through my head.”

The parent said she was not even aware of the lesson until she discovered the Facebook photograph.

“As parents we should have been made aware this,” she said. “I felt like the line had been crossed.”

The parents said they immediately contacted the principal of the high school who defended the program and said it was required under CSCOPE – a controversial electronic curriculum system that provides online lesson plans for teachers.

“The principal told me it was world geography and they have to learn this stuff,” she said. I called Janice VanCleave, a vocal critic of the CSCOPE program and the founder of Texas CSCOPE Review. She said the education program is without question promoting the Islamic religion – and students are not given the full story.

“They are not telling students how these young women are treated in this religion,” she told me. “In the Islamic countries women are not treated well at all.”

Last month, evidence was presented at a state hearing showing that CSCOPE offered a number of lessons about Islam.

One particular lesson instructed teachers to provide classroom readings of selected texts from the Koran.

CSCOPE offered no comparable lessons on Christianity or Judaism, VanCleave told Fox News.

“I do think CSCOPE promotes the Islamic religion,” she said. “I don’t think it’s right to be proselytizing the Islamic religion in our schools.”

Imagine for just a moment the school directing Muslim children to dress up like priests – or pretend to be baptized in a pool of water.

There would be significant outrage. The national media would dispatch satellite trucks to Lumberton and produce one-hour specials about anti-Muslim fervor in the Bible Belt.

Something strange is happening in Texas. Public schools are embracing Islamic values and traditions while Christian values and traditions are being given the boot.

And unless parents rise up and put a stop to the Islamification of their school system – the Bible Belt could very well become the Koran Belt.

Hmmmm. How long has CSCOPE been available? Since Obama has been in office? Parents need to fully investigate the education their kids are getting with Arne Duncan as the Sec of Education. Look into Race to the Top and Common Core Curriculum. The NEA needs to disband and give the task of schooling back to the states. When my son was in Junior High in Southern California (and this was before 9/11) he was required to ‘be a Muslim’ for a day. I was unaware of this ‘school exercise’ until 7 years later when he brought it up. It didn't seem important to him at the time so I had no idea. The Common Core Curriculum, which states have to sign onto to get Federal Education dollars, has decided that some of the Classics of Literature will not help prepare kids to get a job when they finish school. These are being replaced with ‘informational texts (directives from the EPA, Obama’s Executive Orders, etc.) to better teach kids how to write (that is their excuse). Wake up people! GET RID OF THE NEA AND DISBAND THE DEPT OF EDUCATION, NOW!

I know this is long - I sent an email Monday morning and got this back late in the day:

It appears that we have a group that is focusing on spreading fear about curriculum tool that we use, called C-Scope. Lumberton does not “promote” Islam, but “teaches” a world history as defined by the state of Texas’ objective called the TEKS. Key point. The teacher is a veteran teacher and she is Jewish. Now, of all people, if anyone had an agenda to teach the negative aspects of Islam, it might be her. The teacher was teaching about culture and not about a dangerous radical religion .

As for the other misinformation, no one has brought it to our attention. Our teachers are only required to teach what the state of Texas requires of us.

Question: What is more dangerous “fear and ignorance” or “education and understanding”?

District Response to CSCOPE and Promotion of Islam

Recently a picture had surfaced showing five students dressed in burqa’s (Islamic attire) in a World Geography classroom at Lumberton High School. The lesson that was offered was not a written CSCOPE lesson; however it informed students to the customary culture of the people in the Middle East. The lesson that occurred was presented on February 1, 2013. As part of the curriculum from the World Geography TEKS (as prescribed by the state of Texas), the students are to study the culture (TEKS number 17):
“Culture. The student understands the distribution, patterns, and characteristics of different cultures.” The student is expected to:
(A) describe and compare patterns of culture such as language, religion, land use, education, and customs that make specific regions of the world distinctive;
(B) describe major world religions, including animism, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, and Sikhism, and their spatial distribution;
(C) compare economic, political, or social opportunities in different cultures for women, ethnic and religious minorities, and other underrepresented populations; and
(D) evaluate the experiences and contributions of diverse groups to multicultural societies.”
The lesson that was offered focused on exposing students to world cultures, religions, customs, and belief systems. A description on the whiteboard behind the students show the splits in religions: Islam (Sunni and Shia), Judaism (Reform, Conservatives, and Orthodox), and Christianity (Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant). Clothing expresses the individual culture. The lesson is not teaching a specific religion.
The portrait focused only on Middle Eastern attire and the students are wearing variations of this customary attire found in the Middle Eastern culture. This portrait does not reflect the entire aspect of the lesson. The lesson encompassed diversity education so students receive a firm understanding of our world and why people are motivated differently.
Lumberton ISD has purchased the CSCOPE curriculum however; the teachers are not required to teach the lessons that are provided. The school district follows the Year at a Glance, a scope and sequence of the adopted Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, as well as the Instructional Focus Document which explains the Rationale, Common Misconceptions for students, TEKS, and the Key Academic Vocabulary that supports conceptual development. The district has great teachers and supports the teachers and their individuality in methods of instructional delivery.

Thank Gov Perry. It was he who encouraged and helped facilitate the inclusion of cultural studies to include Islam.

2.1 Collaborate on the Muslim Histories and Cultures Project with the aim to expand the implementation of the project to and additional 180 teachers in the Texas School System over the next three years.

Perry has never taken an anti-Muslim or anti-Islam position.

Here is one of Perry’s comments.

I kept warning people during the primaries but no one would listen.
