Russia's parliament backed a draft law on Friday banning "homosexual propaganda" in what critics see as an attempt to shore up support for President Vladimir Putin in the country's largely conservative society. ... "We live in Russia, not Sodom and Gomorrah," United Russia deputy Dmitry Sablin said before the 388-1 vote in the 450-seat chamber.

I remember reading that the Russian ban on American adoptions was Russian retaliation for the US pushing for sanctions on Russia for "human rights violations".

Russia expressly forbids adoption by sodomites, lesbians, "transgendered", and single parents.

Now we know the "human rights" they were talking about.

So children in Russia waiting for adoption in good homes, and good American parents who would give them loving homes, cannot be accommodated so that we can smooth the ruffled feathers of the preening sodomite queens that rule the US vastly out of proportion to their numbers.

"We live in Russia, not Sodom and Gomorrah," United Russia deputy Dmitry Sablin said before the 388-1 vote in the 450-seat chamber.

If that quote is correct and Sablin sincere, then I cautiously am compelled to applaud this man. What politician here in America has the courage to state without apology that these United States are: "...under God Almighty and not Sodom and Gomorrah...".

That said, it's clear that Russia engages in a devious policy of outlawing sodomy on its own turf but weakening other nations by encouraging homosexuality, pornography and pedophilia elsewhere else as cited in the Congressional Record of Jan 10, 1963:

18. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.
19. Break down culture standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and T.V.
20. Present homosexuality, degeneracy, and promiscuity, as "normal, natural, healthy."

In other words, "do as I say, not a I do".

I back the proposed law.

Europe and America are degenerate.

A moral society protects family and children from harmful influences.

Including immoral behavior.

Heh, we are not dealing with Soviet Russia, any more, my FRiend.

We are dealing with Imperial Russia.

I’ve been there 4 times since 1998.

All their official documentation bears the Imperial Crest of the Tsar, featuring the Roman Double Eagle, St. George slaying the dragon, and the Cross of Christ in two places.

The Russian flag flying over the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg has the Red, White, and Blue horizontal bars with the Imperial Crest of the Tsar in the center of it.

Passports of the Russian Federation bear the Imperial Crest of the Tsar on their front cover, as well as a water mark on every page.

No sickle and hammer anywhere.

Among the Western Media, the Lenin mausoleum is called “Lenin’s Tomb”, with great reverence. The average Russian calls it “The Mummy”.

Upon the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the people of St. Petersburg immediately petitioned the Russian Federation to change the name of their city from Leniingrad back to its original Apostolic name.

There is much, much more I can share with you, but Russia is not Soviet any more.

Vladimir Putin worked in the late 80s for Soviet democratic reformer Anatoly Sobchak. He told of his KGB background but it didn’t seem to matter. After the August 1991 coup, he resigned from the KGB and the Communist Party.

He later became an Orthodox Christian and for Putin its not for cynical advantage. Unlike the Soviet rulers, he believes in God and has strengthened the Orthodox Church. He believes religious faith makes a positive contribution to society.

The Soviet Union no longer exists and Christianity survived the persecution of the Soviet time. Now the dark age of atheism must not be replaced by the sinister and perverted lights of our morally relativist era.

Thanks for the reply and I appreciate your firsthand insight. Could you please look over this article from here on Free Republic from May 2012? New Threats for Old: New Russian regime more dangerous than old. Based upon your experience, even if they've tossed Godless Communism overboard, is Russia still a strategic threat to the United States?

I'll admit that I'm skeptical for a leopard can't change his spots. As we all know, the Democrat party remains the party of the Klan in spite of its bogus claims to the contrary. Similarly, has Russia genuinely cast off the demons of Communism after all those decades? I can't help but think of how Russia opposes America in the United Nations. And Michele Bachmann warned of the rise of Russia (she called it the Soviet Union, an understandable slip of the tongue) on the Jay Sekulow back in summer 2011.

Yes, I'd like to think that Russia has come around to the right way of thinking but, as President Reagan said: "Trust but verify". I'm looking forward to your response and hope that it will shed light on the present reality.

Russia has it’s reasons to oppose US in UN on some issues. Every nation has it’s national interests.
You can’t demand someone to ignore all own vital interests in order to please every someone’s wish.
It is a role model for America to follow too.
Pursuing national interests is more important and brings more respect than pleasing gays and muslims.

Russia is not the Soviet Union...not saying they’re perfect by any means...but the Soviet Union died in 1991, and it ain’t coming back.

The old saying, you can’t con a con. They understand the deception, and it is to our shame that a communist country has more sense than a supposed Christian one, though with the low birth rate they may have another motive.

At this point, our greatest threat is not Russian. Rather, it is Islam, and it will be more so once Turkey revives the Ottoman Empire (caliphate).

> is Russia still a strategic threat to the United States?

A better question would be, “Are the Russians correct in regarding the U.S. as a strategic threat?”

How many countries have Russian combat boots on the ground? Chechnya, maybe a piece of Georgia? How close are these countries to the US?

Now, how many countries have American combat boots on the ground? How close are these countries to Russia?

The United States has, by far, the most advanced military in the world with at least twice the military hardware of our nearest competitors.

A vast preponderance of technological and scientific knowledge is stored in English.

The U.S. has been pushing homosexuality as a “human right” on all the nations of the world and has been taking economic measures toward that end. Many nations, including Russia, have suffered for refusing to fold to the gay mafia, which has commandeered the most powerful nation on earth.

In November 2005, Russia issued a warrant for the arrest of George Soros for currency manipulation. They asked the U.S. to extradite him to Russia for trial. George Bush’s State Department told the Russians to pound sand.

In 1996, the Russians told BJ Klintoon to stay out of the Balkans. But, Klintoon’s State Department was bewailing the “ethnic cleansing” of the Mohammedans. Now, thanks to the Klintoon, Bush, and 0bamao State Departments, the Mohammedans are ethnically cleansing the areas given to them by Nato. Not one tear for the tens of thousands of Christians tortured and murdered at the hands of the spawn of Mohammed in the region.

The U.S. is regarded, not only in Russia, but in most of the rest of the world, as a virulently decadent bully pushing its version of “human rights”, which includes such things as open sodomy, adultery, polyamory, pedophilia and abortion, on parts of the world that, correctly, still prohibit these things.

While Russia still allows abortion, the emerging Orthodox Church there is working to change that.

When I was there, I asked a Russian marine who worked with the orphanages, where all the children in the orphanages came from. He said, well, many of them come from families that cannot afford them, and that many come from prostitution.

I asked him why the prostitutes did not avail themselves of the free, state-sponsored abortions. He bristled and said, “There are some things that even a WHORE would not do!” I surmise that is becoming the prevailing sentiment there.

Russia has a serious demographic problem. They are down to less than 150 million people. They are encouraging people to have babies, giving generous benefits to couples who have children.

There is so much more, but I need to return to my regularly scheduled programming.
:)

The old Communist goals are gone—one can see that in Russia, they have new nationalistic goals. Look to see Russia reforming some sort of empire and seeking warm water ports and a place on the world stage. In a way she has reverted to Tsarists concepts. The rise of the Russian Orthodox Church has been a blessing—volunteerism has helped in places like orphanages and hospitals. The church will give them an inner strength to resist Islam —there will be no new Caliph. The Russians know this is a holy war and will wage it like one—ruthlessly if they must. Look to see Russian interests in Alaska and even Poland and Finland. We may yet see a day when Russia and the USA will be allies again.
