Bob Woodward: The White House told me I’d regret challenging them
Hotair ^

Posted on 02/27/2013 5:53:13 PM PST by chessplayer

Via John Sexton of Breitbart.com, I’d sure like to know which ray of Hopeychangey sunshine shared this bit of bright good cheer with Woodward. To be clear, he doesn’t specifically say it was someone inside the White House; I’m assuming that from Politico’s description of this very short clip (“Bob Woodward pulled back the curtain on his battle with the White House over a recent column on the sequester”), but maybe it’s someone from outside the building. Jim Messina, maybe? Remember, he’s into “punching back twice as hard.”

Good point from John:

John Sexton @verumserum

For all those who claimed origin of sequester didn't matter, apparently it mattered enough that the WH tried to bully Bob Woodward.

The clip also helps explain why Woodward took off the gloves this morning on MSNBC. Not here, though: Even when he’s telling Politico about being threatened by Obama’s lackeys, he feels inexplicably compelled to say that The One would surely disapprove if he found out. But why? Letting surrogates do his dirty work has always been key to Bambi’s above-the-fray brand. It started before he became president; it continued in last year’s campaign; it goes on happening today. Would a man who chose Rahm Emanuel as his chief of staff, for cripes sake, be shy about playing rough with people? There’s nothing unusual about a pol getting surrogates to fling shinola on his behalf. What’s unusual is that Obama, uniquely, continues to get a pass for it, even by people who claim that his toadies have threatened them.

Update: Here we go.

Steve Krakauer @SteveKrak

"Very senior person" at White House emailed Bob Woodward "you're going to regret doing this," says Woodward live now on @CNN.

Update: Annnnd the truth-to-power left springs into action to protect Precious:

Wow, looks like Woodward is going the full David Mamet/Judy Miller combo. This is gonna be fun to watch

Who goes birther first, Scalia or Woodward?

Update: Here’s Politico’s write-up of their interview with Woodward, in which he makes clear that he took the e-mail as a threat.

Bob Woodward called a senior White House official last week to tell him that in a piece in that weekend’s Washington Post, he was going to question President Barack Obama’s account of how sequestration came about – and got a major-league brushback. The Obama aide “yelled at me for about a half hour,” Woodward told us in an hour-long interview yesterday around the Georgetown dining room table where so many generations of Washington’s powerful have spilled their secrets.

Digging into one of his famous folders, Woodward said the tirade was followed by a page-long email from the aide, one of the four or five administration officials most closely involved in the fiscal negotiations with the Hill. “I apologize for raising my voice in our conversation today,” the official typed. “You’re focusing on a few specific trees that give a very wrong impression of the forest. But perhaps we will just not see eye to eye here. … I think you will regret staking out that claim.”

Woodward repeated the last sentence, making clear he saw it as a veiled threat. “ ‘You’ll regret.’ Come on,” he said. “I think if Obama himself saw the way they’re dealing with some of this, he would say, ‘Whoa, we don’t tell any reporter ‘you’re going to regret challenging us.’ ”

Poor Nixon is looking down, saying, “Where did I go wrong?”

In F&F 300 Mexicans died and NO ONE asked the tough questions —how could they NOT emerge EMBOLDENED..? After THAT, threatening presstitutes is just peanuts.

We’ll see MORE of it, too.

You made this bed, ho’s, now SLEEP IN IT.

Nighty-night...! ^_^

The threat seems pretty clear to me ~ the aide told Woodward to shut up or he'd be regretful ~ usually a threat to murder or maim a loved one.

Remember Breitbart. Remember the lil'gal in Pima county who, if not pro gun, carried the same model of firearm in her purse as did her would-be assassin ~ now that's a message eh. The Obots do play for keeps.

The threat goes beyond Woodard ~ it extends to all white reporters and editors at the news media that employs him ~ to wit, the Washington Post where he's now an associate editor.

Don’t know if they would go so far as to do that now that the world knows the WH threatened him. If they did something like that, the spotlight would really be on obama, and not in a good way. With Woodward, obama may have finally bitten off more than he can chew. Woodward is Old School,,,from a time when reporters were really reporters and didn’t care which party was in the WH. Woodward is a bulldog, as Nixon found out the hard way.

The Obama crowd don’t think that way ~ they do stuff and simply don’t care what you see. They’ll be killing somebody ~

When you oppose Obama, it’s equal opportunity. Remember X-Rep West and Sen Cruz?? This outfit has Mao as a roll model.

Not to be snarky, but just who would do the shining? Woodward could be executed on the front steps of the White House by the president, and the media would report it as a self defense story.

not surprised, he can’t say that about his majesty—tyrant obama-and get away with it.

should be interesting if he really goes after woodward hard this may even wake up some of the dunder heads that voted for this clown. Probably not, but one can hope.

I never thought a guy like Woodward wold be so naive as to think Obama doesn’t know what is going on.

He got Roberts to sell us out on Obamacare, Does Woodward think that was done by Obama being a nice guy?

He had a Col.locked up for questioning his eligibility.

Obama plays hard. Plus if Woodward gets too rough for Obama he will call down Woodwards friends at the Media to crucify Woodward.

“I think if Obama himself saw the way they’re dealing with some of this, he would say, ‘Whoa, we don’t tell any reporter ‘you’re going to regret challenging us.’ ”

The Germans used to say "if only the Führer knew - these things wouldn't be happening"

What a deluded idiot.
