President Obama’s Legacy: Government Greed
NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE ^ | By Gov. Bobby Jindal February 28, 2013 | Gov. Bobby Jindal

It seems as if President Obama sends out another cabinet secretary every hour to tell the public about the dire consequences we will face if the sequestration cuts are not averted.

You’ve heard them — no vaccinations for children, teachers losing their jobs, less security from terrorist attacks, longer wait times at airports, and fewer food inspections. Now there are even reports that government officials are releasing hundreds of immigrants from deportation centers. What’s next? Is the president going to threaten to open the doors of federal prisons? This is silly.

Sequestration cuts account for less than 3 percent of the federal budget, but the president would have you believe that the world is going to end if they happen. Americans know that at least 3 percent of federal-government spending is wasteful — and they would tell you there’s room to cut the waste without jeopardizing critical services. The president is asking the American people to believe that there is no waste or fat in government. It’s just a ridiculous notion.

It gets better: Even after the sequestration reductions, the federal budget will actually be larger than it was last year. Let that one sink in. Only in Washington, D.C., would this be called a cut.

One idea I had was to delay Obamacare by not implementing the health-insurance exchanges and the Medicaid expansions. This would save tens of billions of dollars, and it wouldn’t cut a program that has already started.

Of course, the president has rejected this idea and every other rational proposal to make these cuts in a way that doesn’t jeopardize services. Instead, he’s using scare tactics and political theater to promote the solution he prefers for every problem — more taxes and more spending.

"Government greed" is a powerful, winning meme.

If only we had a party willing to use it.

Obama is a dangerous, petulant narcissist surrounded by sycophants. His bad policies will leave a terrible legacy. The present MSM may be deferential, but historians will be brutal.

I hope so. But sometimes, when the Citadel on the Hill perishes, we are plunged into a thousand years of darkness. Who then will write the histories, I wonder?

As long as man survives, history will be written. It may not be written by Americans. The final history of Rome was not written by the Romans. The tragedy is that we must live in the present fully understanding what is happening to this once great Citadel. Cicero, Cato and Pliny in their time understood and predicted accurately.

i have a major life issue with where we are and where we’re heading...

if you’re forced to perform abortions in direct violation of your religion... what does that mean for your soul?

if you’re being forced into labor to directly support others that are not your family... doesn’t that make you a slave?

if your govt continues to violate the Constitution, instead forcing on us some soviet/marxist utopia... what does that mean for your nation?

if you keep less then 50% of what you earn... can you truly call it YOUR life?

i just don’t know how i’m supposed to keep working (60-80 hr/wks) with all this in my head. it’s like i’m working against myself and against my country ... the country i grew up in... not this commie bastardization

None of us are God, and none of us can ‘fix’ this on our own.

But it is our duty to God, and to ourselves, to do what we can to uphold what is right. This is going to get harder and harder as the left attempts to create a totalitarian state. And it won’t always make you popular, or accrue to your financial benefit, to take a stand against encroaching oppression.

At the end of the day, I want to be able to look my kids in the eye and say, “I did my part to preserve Liberty.” And I never forget that one day I will stand before Christ and give an account.

at this point, the sum total of my fight to preserve the Constitution from the socialists in our country is to vote, communicate with as many people in person as i can, and post on FR (the last two done in hopes that the 6-degrees of separation will have an impact)

meanwhile, i’m being put in a position daily that runs counter to my beliefs.

do i continue... or do i fold up and leave, waiting for the day to come back once the shooting starts. and if i leave, which country can i go to that wouldn’t be the same? which country wants entrepreneurs?

There you have it. No place else to go. No way out but through.

As long as you don’t fold up, you can face what happens with a clear conscience. Remember that there is a Sovereign God. Before this is done, He will have a say. He is undoubtedly working now, though we may not always recognize it. Just make sure you’re listening when He calls.
