Washington, D.C. - Invoking both the Newtown school massacre and chronic gun violence in American cities, Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn urged Congress Wednesday to ban sales of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines to civilians.
"I've wondered frequently in the past decade how many people have to get murdered in a mass murder for it to be enough," Flynn said. "Is 20 babies enough to say these implements should not be so easily distributed?"
Flynn was one of several witnesses at an emotional Senate Judiciary hearing on the "Assault Weapons Ban of 2013," a bill introduced in the aftermath of the mass shooting in Newtown, Conn., in December.
Neil Heslin, the father of one of the children murdered in Newtown, cried as he testified.
"I'm not here for the sympathy or the pat on the back," Heslin, a 50-year-old construction worker, told the senators. "I'm here to speak up for my son."
Other relatives of Newtown victims were in the audience.
Flynn was there as a law enforcement figure who supports the legislation. And he made for a spirited, outspoken witness, interrupting Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina to challenge his arguments against the bill and drawing applause more than once from members of the audience who support new gun restrictions. After his testimony, he was even more pointed on the issue in an interview with the Journal Sentinel.

Flynn sounds just like Piers Morgan.
Typical radical left wing extremist liberal demokkkrat scumbag who has no clue what this country is all about. Way to go chief asshat. You have proven your ignorance with no help from us.
I would like to have the Chief show my his Geneva convention card or shut the hell up about “civilians”.
I’m a citizen Chief, and that makes me your equal. Got it, Chief? I’m your equal. I won’t be treated as a lesser being, incapable of handling weapons.
This type of cop is the absolute worst.
I love where he says for the last 20 years they have been in an arms race.
The idiot thinks semiautos were invented in the late 1980’s or something
Flynn needs to go enforce current gun laws in his own city.
Chief Flynn (Milwaukee) calls for assault weapon ban.
I wish someone would ask these numbnut brain dead gun grabbing bastards- to name one place where dis-arming the population did not lead to mass murder of citizens
I think he needs some of them stars enlarged and stapled into his forehead.
A public school grad-u-ate? Lucky for me I got out of HS in 1965 just before they went to crap and we actually learned some history. Unmodified(?)
Is this the disrespectful individual that was talking over Lindsey Graham in a recent Senate hearing of sorts?
Generally, no one citizen in the Country deserves greater rights to weapons than any other law-abiding citizen.
Yes, he was disrespectful and came off as a hot-head and a thug.
Because weapons bans are known to be so effective, right? Just look at Mexico, oh, wait no... Just look at Australia and Great Britain - never mind the increases in violent crime they experienced after enacting their bans. Oh, and pay no attention to DC long being known as the "murder capital of the world."
Because really, all we need is one more law, that'll do it. Just look at the effectiveness of Prohibition. er, wait, no... Look at the effectiveness of stopping illegal immigration. um, maybe not... I know, it'll be just as effective as the war on drugs! oh, wait, that's a failure too.
But I'm sure that just one more law is all it will take. Just give up a little bit more of your freedoms and rights. Trust me. Even though the evil and insane perpetrator of the Sandy Hook shooting broke 20 separate laws... We're sure if there had just been a 21st law in place that would've stopped him.
Seriously people, does this even need a sarcasm tag? Sadly, it isn't sarcasm to far too many brainwashed libtards. Lib lurkers, you know who you are. There is absolutely nothing, no laws whatsoever proposed or on the books that would've stopped any of the mass shootings in the past twenty years. Why? CRIMINALS DON'T OBEY LAWS! It is so stunningly simple...maybe that's why it escapes the liberal mindset.
None of these laws will stop the next mass shooting. Oh yes, there will be another one. There is absolutely nothing you, me, local law enforcement, or the feds can do to stop it. No law will stop it. The only thing that will stop the next massacre will be a trained, armed person there to stop it before it gets too bad. Yes, it will be bad - any attack on innocents is bad. But if there is someone there who can stop it in seconds rather than the minutes it typically takes law enforcement to respond...
That is what it will take - more guns, more armed people not less. All your liberal feel-good laws are doing is disarming law abiding citizens - increasing violent crime. (proven, not opinion) So how does it feel to be responsible for additional murders, rapes, and other brutal attacks? Sleep well libs.
Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn, and people like him, are responsible for the Sandy Hook massacre. So much for their “Gun free” zones. Idiots!
I don't own an assault weapon.
Those were tightly restricted by the National Firearms Act of 1934.
I do own a Tyranny Response Rifle.

Ya know, I think from now on my ‘black rifles’, those working tools for battle, will be known as TR rifles. Thanks, I like it!

Nice SKS btw.
That's not a pic of my SKS but I have that stock so it might as well be a pic of mine. Mine is a Norinco paratrooper w/Williams peep sites and a flash suppressor. Plus another aftermarket stock, mags and so on and so forth. I like it a lot.
