Sequester Forces Biden to Take Amtrak Friday, March 1, 2013 10:04 AM
By: Sandy Fitzgerald
Joe Bidens military flights back home to Delaware will be grounded starting this weekend, as the vice president plans to start taking Amtrak trains to help cut the costs involved in using military transport for the short trip.
Biden said he initiated the change in travel plans, Fox News reports, saying the change is the one part of the sequester that works to his benefit.
According to published reports, it costs the government tens of thousands of dollars every time Biden takes Air Force Two or other military flights back to Delaware. Biden told the National Association of Attorneys General he enjoys taking the train, and took nearly 8,000 trips by Amtrak as senator.

Reminds me of the movie, Throw Mama off the train
Which is the real issue.
Oh, the humanity!
Think carefully about what Biden riding the train due to sequestration means and to who it benefits.
Watch your back uncle Joe.
UNCLE CHOO CHOO! That is really funny.
He don’t need a plane. He don’t need Amtrak....they should just use the short yellow bus they have for him.
Maybe it’s just me, but so far I haven’t seen anything I don’t like about “sequestration”.
In fact, as far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t go nearly far enough.
The ghost of Willie Green is happy!
Boo - hoo ... when it has nothing to do with his job, he should be paying his own way back home in the first place. They all should.
They have to do demonstration projects like this to prove to us that its a big deal. Proving of course,, that it is no big deal.
So how much does it cost to have a secret service detail to secure the train the train route etc. My guess this publicity stunt is actually costing more than flying. If Joe really wants to save some money he should crawl back under his rock and stay there.
Maybe its just me, but so far I havent seen anything I dont like about sequestration.

I want to see just how Obama and Michelle handle this. Are they going to roll back those air force one trips.
Parden me boys, is that the uncle biden choo choo...
I recall reading that when Joe was Senator the train was his usual transportation to and from DC.
Love that pic!
There will be a lot of ticked off commuters when they can’t catch their normal train to work and home because he’s got the whole shebang locked up with security for himself.
The only thing I don’t like is that the cuts are focused alot on the military. I know the military could stand to be trimmed down; but, the structure of this thing concentrated the cuts on it, while leaving alot of other wasteful spending untouched.
Now this was the big bluff. The democrats thought the gop would ultimately cave, to prevent military cuts. And you have seen the scare tactics - not fueling and aircraft carrier for example. (BTW, this was a complete lie - the uranium refueling costs $95 million...and a scheduled overhaul of the ship costs $3.3 billion. The Navy can absolutely afford the re-fueling, they’d just have to postpone the overhaul. And the refueling happens every 4 years, so its not like it has to coincide with the overhaul.)
Anyway, I’m glad the gop called Barry’s bluff...but a little concerned that it hit the military so hard.
