When it comes to gun laws, California is vying to have the strictest in the nation. It comes as no surprise, then, that the state is not a particularly business-friendly environment for those in the gun industry.
And so Texas Gov. Rick Perrys wishes are beginning to come true:
Shield Tactical, a California retailer and firearms training provider, has decided to get the heck out of Dodge and move to Texas
John W. Harrington founded Shield Tactical in 2008, but with Californias hard-line stance on gun control, he decided the state was no longer a good place for his business. Harrington, originally from Texas, said it was finally time to go home.
The state of California treats all businesses as necessary evils, he told Red Alert. They treat those of us in the gun business as just evil. They make it very clear that they dont want us there. Its just that simple.
As new gun control measures are being advanced in state legislatures across the nation, Gov. Perry has been trying to lure gun and ammunition manufacturers to set up shop in the Lone Star Stateeven making a recruitment trip out to California to do so. Although Shield Tactical didnt make the decision based on the governors efforts alone, Harrington said, it didnt hurt.
Harrington hasnt calculated the total cost of the relocation which will not include their training division but he expects it to be in the tens of thousands. He considers the investment well worth it, if only for the attention it has brought to the cause of gun rights advocates.

Stop this back or forth.
Let’s just fix it. Bring back US jobs now.
Not someone, but certainly millions of someones. Government policies have undoubtedly contributed to the present situation, but what policies made Americans start buying ever increasing numbers of imports in the 1960s?
How did people survive and prosper prior to the flood of imports in the late '60s?
One policy was not demanding foreign markets be as open to American goods as the U.S. market was to theirs, Japan being a notable example.
And many foreign manufacturers actually tried to produce what the buyers wanted, the automobile industry being a case in point.
The simple truth is that a family like a business must live within it’s income. If buying a cheaper imported product will do it then that’s what they’ll do.
Then don't bitch and moan when the company you work for closes its doors or moves offshore and unemployment and underemployment continue to rise.
Not everyone survived and prospered. Gas rationing and a wage and price freeze come to mind. And of course the U.S. economy of 50 years ago is not the economy of today.
In the 50s and 60s? When and where?
I'm not ready to blame the countries economic problems on some parent shopping at WalMart to save a few bucks.
Well, my heart’s out for anyone who has to languish in a state like that. As for the gun manufacturers, you bring up a good point, but those blue states’ anti-gun policies will drive them out anyway.
When did it start?
You were griping about people buying imported stuff when you do so yourself.
Not until I've been forced to because I can't find a particular item, like a TV or computer, made in the USA.
I'm not ready to blame the countries economic problems on some parent shopping at WalMart to save a few bucks.
You're part of the problem. Don't bitch and moan when you or your neighbors see your jobs eliminated or moved offshore. If you're not interested in supporting your community, state and country you'll reap what you sow.
It's a laptop that was given to me. Can you point me to all those brands manufactured here in the US by US owned companies?
parents buying shoes for their kids aren't
There are USA manufactured shoes for children. Evidently you, like so many others, simply don't care.
old folks trying to live on a few hundred bucks a month
Besides food, shelter, heat and light, what will these people you refer to be buying with their few hundred bucks a month?
Beyond that what could they possibly want? A telephone? Medicine? Nah...Who cares? After all they're a “problem” because they try to save by buying imported goods.
“There are USA manufactured shoes for children. Evidently you, like so many others, simply don't care.”
Sure there are and Mama will compare prices and think about her budget and buy accordingly.
But she's a “problem” too since she doesn't have much money.
“It's a laptop that was given to me. Can you point me to all those brands manufactured here in the US by US owned companies?”
Use your imported laptop to search the internet.
Exactly the reason there are so few USA owned and operated US manufacturers. You want high paying jobs in the US, but you don 't want to buy US products. Well as a former teammate of mine used to say, "You just crapped in your own dinner basket. I hope you enjoy the meal! "
Use your imported laptop to search the internet.
I did, because unlike you, I care.
Those evil people! Thinking about prices and their budgets in a time of recession!
If only they would forget all that and just spend, spend spend happy days and good jobs would would magically appear.
All this and you can even tell me what I want....Outstanding! And you care too!
But I’ve no more time for you...so away with you, that’s it go, I’m done with you.
I can hear this punchline in the very near future:
Liberals: “We’re gunna come and force you not to secede!!!”
Texas: “Oh, yeah, just where are you going to get a gun??!!”
If you spend, spend, spend and you don't have the income, you're stupid.
Evidently you are an Obamabot also.
June 30, 2009 Wal-Mart announced today that it was backing Obamas government health care plan. The discount retail giant was joined by the Service Employees International Union and the left-wing Center for American Progress. Im done with you.
Good, your ignorance won't be missed.
Yes, the blue states anti-gun policies will drive them out. What we shouldn't do in the process is punish the gun manufacturers in blue states. Buy their products and urge them to move out I think is a better approach.
If we stop buying from them and they go out of business, the state wins. We can't allow that to happen!
Personally I'll miss Rock River Arms when they move out of IL. I'll be glad to have helped fund their move though. :-)
WOW - a State willing to mimic the brilliance of Chicago and Detroit on gun control. Doesn't get much stupider than that...
