FALMOUTH — Three municipal police departments and the Maine State Police took in a small arsenal of unwanted guns and bags full of ammunition and raised money for a charitable cause during a gun donation program Saturday.

The event was aimed at helping reluctant gun owners, such as hunters' widows who don't know what to do with the weapons that have come into their possession. In all, 68 guns and a pile of ammunition were turned in at Cumberland, Falmouth and Yarmouth police departments and the state police barracks in Gray.

At the end of the day the usable guns were transported to Howell's Archery Center in Gray, where they are to be sold and the proceeds donated to Special Olympics Maine.

This is the type of turn in event that can be supported by everyone who is not a hoplophope or enemy of the Constitution. Valuable property was saved and the proceeds given to charity. Win-win-win.

Wonder if the cops will pick out all the good guns like they do at the other buy-backs?

68! Lessee, that’s 68 / 300,000,000 or 0.000023% of America’s guns!

Oh Noes!

Chris Crispie is doing the SAME thing in Jersey. Some Republican.

Sweating out 20+ outrageous anti-gun bills soon to arrive on his desk for signature from the Democrat Legislature here.

It would behhove gun owners to have some clear instructions for their families.

I suspect these are the biggest non-criminal source of guns in buyback farces.

I had a POS .38 Llama I was saving to trade for a pair of Raider tickets the next time Oakland had a buyback event.

"At the end of the day the usable guns were transported to Howell's Archery Center in Gray, where they are to be sold and the proceeds donated to Special Olympics Maine."

So this is a "gun rescue" or "adopt-a-gun" program where neglected and unwanted guns are matched with new and loving owners?

(Someone should try this in California or New York or Chicago! Feinstein, Bloomberg and Emmanuel would go apoplectic!)

Wish they would have a buyback close to my area. I have a couple of old broken clunkers that I can’t even trade in at a gunshop that I would like to unload.

That little S&W Safety Hammerless is worth a few bucks.

Like 1968 all over again when, after the murder of Bobby Kennedy, the anti-gun hysteria was so strong many people took their firearms and turned them into the local police.
