Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II was hospitalized Sunday over an apparent stomach infection that has ailed her for days, a rare instance of ill health sidelining the long-reigning monarch. Elizabeth will have to cancel a visit to Rome and other engagements as she recovers, and outside experts said she may have to be rehydrated intravenously.

Buckingham Palace said the 86-year-old queen had experienced symptoms of gastroenteritis and was being examined at London’s King Edward VII Hospital. …

Elizabeth has ruled since 1952 and is Britain’s second-longest-serving monarch, beaten only by Queen Victoria in terms of the number of years spent on the throne.

Elizabeth’s husband Prince Philip, 91, has had several hospital stays in 2012, but Elizabeth has rarely let sickness get in the way of her still-busy schedule. …

Elizabeth is one hardworking, amazing woman.

God bless her, and may she get well soon.

Yes, the thought of two jug-eared wankers on the left and right sides of the Atlantic is depressing.

I oppose all things ‘Royalty’. We left that back in 1776 and I say good riddance to it(the small part of my British Isles background being RC Irish).

I agree with you though as I do not think it was right to denigrate her because of her age.

I would however hate to see Charles take any power. His son seems much less of a fop or as Python put it, upper class twit.

Yes, you got that right! Either she has to outlive him, or she has to abdicate in favor of her grandson, Prince William.

Don’t think Charles is eligible to be King now, divorced, married a divorced woman.

I believe it will be William & Kate next.

Gastroenteritis is a generic term used when doctors don’t know what’s wrong or they don’t want to say.

Best wishes for Her Majesty’s recovery. I’m hoping it isn’t something serious.

"Don’t think Charles is eligible to be King now, divorced, married a divorced woman.

William can't be next; it would require a change to the British constitution for Charles to be passed over. The Anglican church would have a problem if Charles' ex-spouse was alive, and they might still have one, since Camilla is divorced and her ex is living. But she'll never be queen for that reason.

I read a bio of Elizabeth last summer....tradition means quite a lot to her, and she would never dream of passing Charles over in favor of William.

Tell that to Henry VIII. Actually, since he divorced an adulteress, and she conveniently died before he remarried, it shouldn't be a problem.

It’s quite interesting to me how some people have such strong opinions about others they don’t know. Even more odd that they swallow unquestioningly what they read in the media.
