Newborn Dies After Parents Killed in Hit-Run Accident
ABC News ^ | 3/4/13 | ANTHONY CASTELLANO

The premature baby who initially survived after its parents were struck by a car and killed while they were on their way to a New York hospital has died, a family neighbor said.

Isaac Abraham, a community leader in Brooklyn and a neighbor of the dead couple, confirmed the death of the baby this morning. The baby died from injuries overnight at New York's Bellevue Hospital. The baby, who was about 3 pounds, sustained brain and other internal injuries, Abraham said.

Nachman and Raizy Glauber, both 21, were killed early Sunday morning in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a tight-knit neighborhood made up of primarily Orthodox Jews. Emergency workers at the scene of the accident managed to rush Raizy Glauber to a nearby hospital where doctors performed a cesarean section to deliver the baby, according to ABC News station WABC.

Police are searching for the driver of the BMW and a female passenger, who fled on foot after the accident. Police say they believe they know the identity of the driver, but have not been able to locate the person. Detectives are showing his photo to possible witnesses, WABC reported.

Very sad. God obviously didn’t want the baby separated from the parents.

“I’m also curious on something mentioned in the article, that the owner of the BMW commited “insurance fraud” by not reporting a third driver to their insurance company? I found this strange. So I can’t let a friend borrow my car without commiting insurance fraud?”

I regular swap vehicles with other family members. I make sure we all carry the auto insurance and its paid up. In Florida there better not be a law against this that can be used against me.

As far as I know, as long as the family member does not live with you, you don't need to list the driver on your policy. At least, that's the way it was about 10 years ago.

I'll bet the driver was DUI.

That’s the word. He had several prior DUI arrests. There are no words adequate to describe this degenerate POS. He wiped out an entire family. And that Takia creature who illegally let him use the car should also never see the light of day again.

I’m wondering how the driver of the car the Glaubers hired had only minor injuries, when the engine ended up in the back seat - had he been outside of the car?

I had a conversation about letting others use your car with my insurance agent. Generally, it is not a problem, but the owner and the insurance company will be liable if the person he lends the car gets into an accident like this one. The liability attachs to the insurance company to protect innocent third parties in cases like this. The issue of criminal fraud only arises if you use you name and driving record to insure a car for a third party who might otherwise have to pay much higher rates. A lot of people in New York do not own cars. I can see a case where a relative or friend with a terrible driving record prevails upon them to register or lease a car which the bad driver uses almost exclusively.

Then when you nitwit nephew plows “his” BMW with your name on the registration into a Grand Caravan and wipes out a family of seven, and gets up and runs off, the cops come looking for you. You sez, “Oh, that’s not may car, I just registered it for my nephew.” Then they arrest you for insurance fraud, and put out an APB for your nephew.

No has brought up the Crown Heights riots yet.

The Crown Heights Riot was a three-day riot that occurred August 19–21, 1991 in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, New York. At the time of the riot, Crown Heights was and remains predominantly an African-American and Orthodox Jewish neighborhood. It is the home of the Lubavitch sect of Orthodox Jewish Hasidim. The riots began on August 19, 1991, after the child of Guyanese immigrants was accidentally struck and killed by an automobile in the motorcade of Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe.

The riot unleashed simmering tensions of the Crown Heights' black community against the Orthodox Jewish community. In its wake, several Jews were seriously injured; one Orthodox Jewish man, Yankel Rosenbaum, was killed; and a non-Jewish man, allegedly mistaken by rioters for a Jew, was killed by a group of African-American men. Lemrick Nelson was ultimately convicted in federal court for civil rights violations related to Rosenbaum's death and sentenced to 19 years in prison. A second defendant, Charles Price, was also charged with conspiring to violate Rosenbaum's civil rights and received 21 years in prison. Nelson and Price were the only two Crown Heights rioters tried for their actions.

This incident is eerily reminiscent of Crown Heights in reverse. (Depending on the ethnicity of the driver.) They didn't mention that even though they had Lemrick Nelson dead-to-rights for first degree murder, an OJ jury let him walk.

As usual, the UK's Daily Mail Online has a much more complete story, with lots of photos:

New York police hunt for convicted killer with a previous DWI 'who killed a pregnant woman, her husband and their unborn baby in a horrific crash as they drove to hospital'

Here's a picture of the DUI driver they are seeking:

Authorities are seeking Julio Acevedo, 44, who had a DWI arrest
just two weeks ago and who has previously served eight years
in prison for manslaughter, for the early-morning crash in
Brooklyn on Sunday, police said.
