Gets Shot in the Face With Very Real .357 Magnum
Armed with a realistic plastic replica handgun, a 34-year-old man on Friday attempted to rob a bank in Trimble, Mo., according to police. Unfortunately for the robber, one of the banks employees was able to retrieve a very real Smith and Wesson .357 revolver and shoot the suspect in the face, effectively ending the robbery attempt.
The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri said Monday that Michael Oliva has been charged in federal court in connection with the attempted bank robbery and leading police on a high-speed chase. Oliva remains hospitalized and is in federal custody pending a detention hearing, WDAF-TV reports.
WDAF-TV has more details about the robbery based on court documents:
According to an affidavit filed in support of Mondays criminal complaint, Oliva entered First Security Bank, 202 U.S. Hwy. 169, Trimble, at about 1:25 p.m. Friday, March 1.
Oliva allegedly pulled on a black mask, pointed what appeared to be a handgun, but was later found to be a realistic plastic replica, at a bank employee and ordered her to give him the money in her teller drawer.
The employee instead dropped to the floor behind the teller stations and began crawling toward another bank employee, shouting for help. As she was crawling, the affidavit says, she saw Oliva lean over the teller station and point his handgun at her. She grabbed a plastic trash can and tossed it over the teller counter toward Oliva; however, Oliva had moved around the end of the teller stations and was directly behind her.

My choice of handgun.
The guy must have shot him through the cheeks?
FMCDH(BITS)
Not a bad shot but probably only hit soft tissue though.
Something tells me he ain’t gonna look the same or chew his food right, or speak right, or see right, ever again in federal prison for the rest of his life.
On the positive side, he has a story to tell for the rest of his life, about how he survived being shot by a .357 mag.
That'll do it.
Shot in the face with a.357.........should not be much left.
I guess the ‘it wasn’t necessary to shoot crowd’ will be out in force on this one.
Actually, the dude sealed his own fate when pulling the gun and maybe firing wasn’t necessary at that precise moment, BUT when he was dumb enough to go over the counter, he becomes fair game as the threat started to become real.
Sure he read the banks rules that forbade employees to be carrying (SARC) or ‘no gun on premises’ —just hope the bank is understanding toward the guy, who was doing the ‘right thing’ once the (now) felon showed REAL signs he was ready to do harm.
musta been 38 target loads or a glancing wound.
lucky democrat.
Don’t take a plastic gun to a real gun fight.
I carry a Glock 26 9MM, but much prefer shooting the old S+W .357M at the range. It’s a “head turner” when people hear it report its presence.
LOL. War. It never changes...
Could be that the teller had the gun loaded with .38 Specials instead of full load 357s.That could account for why the guy didn’t get more damage.
He must have attended the Joe Biden School of Gun Safety.
