D.C. snow storm buries climate change hearing

D.C. snow storm buries climate change hearing By Zack Colman - 03/06/13 10:30 AM ET

The House Science, Space and Technology subcommittee on Environment was scheduled to hear from a panel that included a pair of witnesses more skeptical of some of the scientific consensus regarding climate change.

The snow storm that struck Washington early Wednesday put those plans on hold.

The Washington area is under a winter storm warning until 3 a.m. Thursday. The National Weather Service forecast a potential 6 to 12 inches of snowfall inside the Beltway.

Some climate scientists contend weather patterns like the one Washington is forecast to experience correlates with climate change. They argue climate change will make snowfall more irregular while producing heavier hitting blizzards.

While scientists have largely avoided connecting individual extreme weather events to climate change, they say it is making such incidents more intense.

But two of the witnesses who were slated to appear before the committee have expressed more skepticism about the link between climate change and extreme weather.

They were asked to testify on climate science in relation to some of the executive actions President Obama might take to curb greenhouse gas emissions.

Some Republicans are skeptical that climate change is occurring. Many of those who believe it is are unsure how much human activity contributes to it.

Given that, and the GOP's resistance to measures they say would increase the cost of energy and hurt the economy, the chances of passing climate legislation looks slim.

Therefore, Democrats and green groups have urged Obama to use his administrative authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and other air pollution.

Obama vowed to do just that in his State of the Union address if Congress cannot pass a "market-based" climate bill.

Oh, but this is PROOF of global warming.

You see, since the ice caps are melting, there is more moisture available to make bigger snowfalls.

I am in downtown DC right now.

It is a little snow with mostly rain.

Yet the DC Government is shut down and all the Government facilities are shuttered.

In Dallas, we would look up and say “looks like we should put on a hat today.”

Wimps!

It started snowing at Andrews AFB around midnight and has been coming down ever since. Because the temperature was above freezing there has been some melting and the streets are only now getting an accumulation of snow on them, but it is slushy and slick.

We have about 2 inches on the ground/lawn areas. The forecast went from 2-5 inches yesterday morning to the current 6-8 inches inside the beltway with 12-16 inches to the west and north of the city, where many federal workers live.

Seriously, if anything comes from the sky, DC closes the doors.

In Dallas we look up and if we see anything we say “looks like a mess ‘o weather. Gonna need 15 extra minutes to get to the office...”

You have NO idea the panicked emails I have gotten from people who not only won’t come to the office today but are already saying they won’t come downtown tomorrow.

RAIN WITH SOME ICE! Thou art a heartless B!tch!

Looks like global warming might actually have some positive consequences!

I grew up in the lake effect snowbelt of northern Indiana. At least there we had the snow plows to clear the roads and the drivers KNEW how to drive in snow.

I spent 2 years at Ft. Hood and remember the post only being closed once when there was a horrendus ice storm that hit and everyone was iced in for two days. I’ll drive in and on snow, but NOT on ice.

If tomorrow is ‘unscheduled leave or tele-work’ I’ll go in, pending the road conditions; but at least I’ve a stack of work I brought home that I can do on ‘tele-work.’

They get paid the same whether they do no real work in the office or to do no real work at home.

Thus the rah rah for the bad weather.

D.C. is the most retarded city in the world when hit with bad weather.

I’ve lived here for over 40 years and it just gets worse, year after year.

Depending on your commute you should plan accordingly.

Rain, add 30 minutes.
Rain on a Friday evening, add 1 to 3 hours.
Freezing rain, add 1 to 12 hours.
1 to 4”s of snow that sticks, add 2 to 4 hours.

The cool thing is when we get 6 or more inches with a little warning. In this case, most people stay home and you can travel around pretty easy.

I saw a taxi driver get out of his car (cash only! The seat of government of the Unites States of America is the only major city IN THE WORLD where you cannot pay for a cab ride with a credit card — even in PARIS, BERLIN, much less DETROIT and CHICAGO do you not have to ask “please get me a cab that takes credit cards”) to stop and stare up as if asking “what is this stuff falling from the sky?”

I was born and raised in Los Angeles for God’s sake and we didn’t piss on ourselves when a few drops of rain fell.

I believe in God and I think He’s telling us something about global fascists being in charge of the earth’s temperature. It happens every time the liars want to show boat for the nation and world. Algore does not control the temps and weather. We can’t buy him and his carbon trading wannbe pals into adjusting the climate via taxation and gia ideology.

Did you notice The Hill constantly used the term “climate change” and not global warming. They are not giving up on this. They are changing the language again like good little communists.
